Nach einiger Zeit des Nachdenkens ist für mich der Zeitpunkt gekommen, meine Karriere in der Nationalmannschaft zu beenden und den Weg für die junge Generation frei zu machen. 🇩🇪

Als ich 2014 das erste Mal das DFB-Trikot getragen habe, hätte ich es mir in meinen Träumen nicht ausmalen können, dass daraus am Ende 86 Länderspiele werden. 

Auch wenn der große Titel bei den letzten Turnieren ausblieb und wir manche schmerzhafte Niederlage hinnehmen mussten, war diese Zeit für mich ein extrem besonderes Kapitel, das mich für immer prägen wird.

Ein riesiges Dankeschön geht an:

Meine Teamkollegen: Für jeden gemeinsamen Zweikampf und den Zusammenhalt in Kabine und Quartier – und vor allem für die Freundschaften, die weit über den Fußball hinaus bleiben werden.

Das gesamte Trainer- und Betreuerteam: Danke für das jahrelange Vertrauen und die Arbeit hinter den Kulissen. Ein besonderer Dank geht an Jogi Löw, Hansi Flick und Julian Nagelsmann, die mich auf meiner Reise beim DFB begleitet und geprägt haben. Aber auch an meinen Förderer in der U-Nationalmannschaft Horst Hrubesch.

Und natürlich euch Fans: Danke für eure Unterstützung - ganz besonders für die einmalige Atmosphäre bei unserer Heim-EM 2024. 

Für mich beginnt jetzt ein neues Kapitel, in dem ich mich voll und ganz auf meinen Verein konzentrieren werde.

Neto is a fantasy player.

You imagine this idea that he’s constantly stretching opposition, that he’s always defensively active, that he’s some selfless/tireless worker.

When in truth he’s none of this consistently through a 90.

Complaining all game anytime someone misplaces a pass or doesn’t square it to him in the box.

Playing “ball to feet” often with poor IQ/decision making.

Moments where he switches off or even worse, feels like too much of a “star” to trackback.

I understand how people get caught by the allure of his profile and what he “can” be. I defended him in season one, expecting more too.

But it’s time to sell if we wanna go to another level. Can’t have these “mid” “senior” players stealing serious minutes & capping us again.

This is Trev vs Josh part 2. We have Quenda/Palestra who share all his function between them, with better IQ.

And if Xabi still wants a more experienced versatile attacker to replace him, Ndiaye is an easy 1 in 1 out swap. Much more inherent value, and needle-moving skillset for the squad.

I understand the temptation for some to “keep”, but for me absolutely sell.

We can 100% do better.
