One of the hardest conversations in medicine is explaining to a patient's family that, despite the patient's death, the treatment may have achieved what it was medically intended to achieve.
A treatment can be appropriate, correctly administered and clinically successful in achieving its intended objective, yet the patient may still die because of the severity or progression of the underlying disease. But how do you communicate that to a grieving family without sounding defensive, insensitive or as though you are trying to justify a death?
This is one of the most difficult intersections of clinical medicine and human communication.
Two interesting things I discovered this week are:
1. That you can get genuine court affidavits online from the Nigerian Federal High Court. A genuine one, not the ones those roadside people give you.
The website has all sorts of affidavits, even ones I didn't know existed.
2. The National Population Commission has a working portal. You can register your newborn online and get a certified birth certificate that is accepted worldwide.
You can do all these things without any bureaucracy.

I assisted in a complete radical mastoidectomy today. It wasn't easy , but I'm happy contributing my little bit to the medical world as the person who helped adjust the stool for the consultant anaesthesiologist to sit on.I'm proud of the surgeon I'm becoming๐ฉบ๐ฉบ๐ท๐ท๐
My Haematology Viva examiner looked at me and said "from your answers, it's obvious that you don't read your book but you come for classes ' . That's how I knew I have passed Haematology .
My viva examiner said I'm a very good student and will be a very good doctor.
He said I impressed him and answered all the questions he asked๐ฅน๐ฅน
When I came out, I called my mummy and started crying. I don too suffer for the path and pharm class.
Thank you Doc.... some patients sef.... which one is you prefer me to the other medical student... because you are not comfortable with handsome medical students/ doctors clerking you ๐ฅฒ
Don't hesitate to shun patient's relatives that belittle your colleagues in their absence in attempt to praise you for making seemingly difficult procedures look simple.
