In a televised address, former President @M_Farmaajo condemned the violence that erupted in Mogadishu after Villa Somalia reportedly launched raids against opposition leaders in an effort to suppress planned demonstrations.

Key points from his statement:

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞

Farmaajo stated that his administration had reached a broad electoral agreement with all Federal Member States under the 17 September framework. He accused President Hassan Sheikh of rejecting the agreed process and instead establishing a political base in Mirinaayo to mobilise opposition against the Federal Government.

𝟐. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐒𝐌

Farmaajo firmly rejected allegations that his government targeted HSM in Mirinaayo, describing the accusation as false and politically motivated.

The reality is, claim was used to rally clan support against the government.

Farmaajo contrasted events with what he described as the current administration’s actions against former leaders, respected elders & political opponents.

𝟑. 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐒𝐌 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐢

Farmaajo revealed that both he and former President @HESharifShAhmed were asked by HSM to help mediate disputes with Puntland President @HESaidADeni Expressed a willingness to compromise on constitutional amendments, but later reversed course and proceeded unilaterally.

𝟒. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐧𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞

Farmaajo concluded by urging all sides to pursue dialogue rather than confrontation, condemning the use of force against political opponents and warning that such actions risk further destabilising the country.

𝟓. 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬

Farmaajo called on the SNA and security forces to uphold the law and remain neutral, arguing that their constitutional duty is to protect the nation, its people, and its institutions &not to be used as instruments in political disputes.

He stressed that the armed forces were established to defend #Somalia from external and internal security threats, not to target opposition figures or become entangled in political conflicts
