@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 So you can either run it back & hope that your team also grows to meet the challenge or make a big move to nip the problem in the bud before they give you belt consistently. And as things stand, OKC has the depth & the draft to make a move for Giannis.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 That’s a fair point, for this year. But like I was saying, the Wemby problem isn’t going anywhere. They can’t assume that the Spurs will remain at the same skill level they’re at right now, especially since they’re mostly young players who will exponentially grow.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 For this year, maybe. But the conversation will become more & more different as the years progress, hence my argument that OKC might need to make a big move to keep Wemby in check. Because if they don’t act soon, they’re gonna get bounced out of contention.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 Even if Chet played better, he’s just not a better player than Wemby. They aren’t even in the same conversation. With that said, I wouldn’t trade Chet either. Someone like him could thrive next to Giannis if OKC ends up cashing in on their draft capital.
@GlobalEd718@ryansongalia You can twist that the other way, the young core of the Spurs are nowhere near the primes and will only improve with the years. The only thing that can stop them at this point is, as you said, OKC trading for Giannis.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 The core is young, the coach is new. The major pieces will develop with time, and their playoff experience this year will shape them going forward. As for OKC, they may need to make a big move considering that Wemby hard-counters Chet if they want to do anything about the alien.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 Not sure they had all of that speed & athleticism considering that a lot of their top guys were injured in someway, it would’ve been a bigger blowout if the Timberwolves were fully healthy.
As for the Spurs, they don’t really need to rock the boat beyond trading Fox.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 And keep in mind, the Nuggets got bodied by a greatly-injured Timberwolves team. As great as Jokić is, there’s only so much he can do on his own if the rest of his team can’t measure up.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 But you can flip that the other way, the playoffs exposed that the Nuggets have a very big defensive deficiency that the Timberwolves were able to capitalize on. So if the Nuggets can be the western kryptonite of the Spurs will depend on the moves made in the off-season.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 Like I said before, the only team that has a chance to stop Wemby is a healthy OKC with Giannis in their ranks. South of that, I’m not sure what most teams can do about the Spurs getting better (especially within the context of the Western Conference).
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 People didn’t think Wemby would have the handles he has, but he developed that too. He may not have LeBron levels of endurance, but it’ll definitely improve with the years. And it’ll only get better once the core around him develop alongside him.
@BKnower256@leoalwaysgotit@Nateeftw@DEADMAN_pt3 Chet isn’t even in the same conversation as Wemby, the latter is absolutely the better player. You can argue that OKC is a team would’ve had a better chance at beating the Spurs if they were fully healthy, but that’ll become less true as the years progress.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 But that’s the problem, the same trick won’t work twice. And as Wemby approaches his prime, his strength & stamina will grow with him. You’re speaking as though most of the Spurs are in their primes already, but they aren’t even close.
@Saint_S7ven@BallknowerTony@DEADMAN_pt3 Let me repeat, a 22 year-old in his third season made it to the Finals. This is the worst he’ll ever be, it’s all uphill from here.
@CertifiedD1Hatr@DEADMAN_pt3 The team is going to improve alongside the rest of the league, so the key for the west is if they can find an answer for Wemby. Because if they don’t, the Spurs will return to the finals.
@Saint_S7ven@BallknowerTony@DEADMAN_pt3 You really don’t think he’s gonna develop? I’m sure people were arguing similar things about LeBron when he couldn’t beat the Spurs in 2007.
@Saint_S7ven@BallknowerTony@DEADMAN_pt3 Again, first playoff appearance, third year in the league. The kid is ahead of schedule, he’ll develop as he approaches his prime.
