Modi in his address tells India that Pakistan begged the US for a ceasefire.

This is almost immediately followed by Indian reports of swarms of Pakistani drones entering parts of India.

If those reports are true, I believe that's Pakistan talking back to Modi.

The Pakistani message?

"We didn't beg for a ceasefire, look at our drones going brrrrrrrrrr!"

The Indian military does not want to escalate. Their defense chiefs told the political leadership explicitly that they cannot guarantee an air op in Pakistan without facing serious risks. That led Modi to distance himself from the action until the results become clear. Well, the results came out and the result was the first Rafale kill in combat without even entering Pakistani territory. Panic ensued. It was then decided that the political leadership needs to be seen back in control as they order escalation in the form of drone swarms and projectile launches. The large scale Pakistani response that followed further made it clear that Pakistan isn't going to back down.

What did India achieve? It achieved to learn yet another lesson in the realities of warfare. When you go into the battlefield, all the war plans go out the window. And it's always foolish to overestimate yourself and underestimate your enemy.

The Indian military is actually a peacenik in this case. They don't want a war. They know the realities on the ground. But certain political lobbies want other things.

Those funeral photos from Pakistan? That's the Pakistani military sending a direct message to India. The message is: we remain undeterred and our policies remain unchanged even after your operation.

India would be wise to understand that the best resolution here is close door direct talks. Because whatever India has been trying so far isn't working.
