Here are the match-ups for tomorrow's knockout to decide the 10th and final player in the #FreestyleChess Grand Slam first leg in Weissenhaus on February 7-14!
@DoroTeoMP He's been by far the best player in NYC. Not even a question about it.
But this Blitz format was absolutely trash. Many quick prearranged draws, more math than chess in the last rounds.
This also helps to not lose, if you're good enough to earn that privileged position π
On top of the cake, in a week Ian got back to #3 in Rapid and #5 in Blitz.
- The ONLY top player who gained rating in Rapid
- 40 Blitz rating points gained in 2 days
- 50 points swing vs Ali
- 60 points swing vs Mr. streamer
- 70 points swing vs MVL
- 1 World Champion title
Let me get this straight.
I don't like the ending we had. I agree with everyone saying that MC is out of control and should not be in the position to change the rules.
That being said, Ian's title is immaculate for many reasons. If someone's to blame or have asterisks, it's MC
@chess_insights It's Magnus who asked for the sharing, many times.
Ian was also first in regulations.
If there has to be one guy with a charity title here it's surely Carlsen.

@MarkMazurik It's surely also because of friendship but not only because of that. He would never do this with an opponent he doesn't respect at the maximum level.
Can I say something? You'd NEVER see Magnus do something like this unless he truly believes his opponent is a fair and threatening matchup. This means A LOT about the so called inadequate guy..
Ian Nepomniachtchi about his comeback from 0-2 in the final match of the 2024 FIDE World Blitz Championship: "Of course, it was uneasy. [...] I wasn't too pessimistic. Of course it wasn't the best start, but whenever I get a chance I can try to play it on and to use it. In Blitz, everything can happen."
π· Lennart Ootes #RapidBlitz
There is no asterisk here...
Shared 2nd in rapid
1st in regulations in Blitz.
Made it to the finals
Came back from 0-2 against Magnus with many brilliances.
Held 3 more draws with basically perfect play.
There is no asterisk. This is 110% deserved.
THERE ARE TWO WINNERS!! ππ€π
After several overtime draws, Ian and Magnus agree to SHARE the FIDE World Blitz Chess Champion title! Absolutely insane on New Years Eve π
Guys, I am losing lifetime friends here, sit in a corner watching chess while fireworks are coloring the night sky...
But guess who doesn't care? Let's go @lachesisq π₯
