@JennyENicholson "Can't evacuate" and "doesn't want to stay at the available public shelters" are two different things, and I wish people would stop pretending otherwise.

@The_Acumen Public emergency shelters are free, including free pet-friendly and special needs shelters, and they exist in all impacted counties. Having empathy is one thing, but justifying not using the free resources available to evacuate instead of promoting them to save lives is a choice.

π Shelter location
π If it's pet friendly
π₯ If they can accommodate health needs

@danishacarterr Florida's counties provide free, public shelters built to withstand these storms. They even provide free pet-friendly and special needs shelters. There are open shelters still in every impacted county. Google is free.
@YuhNVious@ThisIsCindyLou@AnnaRMatson It's certainly not "perfectly safe" inland, but you do lose a lot of credibility when you claim it's not safer to be inland instead of facing down 15ft storm surge on the coast.
@leppychaos@JennyENicholson The ones in Florida are primarily schools that have been built specifically to serve as emergency shelters for these storms.
@GarrettArt The wind is stronger than I expected it would be in Central Florida. Truly an absolute monster of a storm.
Also, I somehow missed that you guys were having a meetup! I'll already be Food and Wining it at Epcot this weekend, so I'll be on the lookout for some nerds!
@brilliqntfriend I don't need to relate to every book I read or enjoy; however, in high school, we primarily read books about men (e.g., Lord of the Flies, Catcher in the Rye, etc.). Fine books, but it also would have been nice to have had something else in the curriculum from time to time.
@_celia_bedelia_ I like... Baby duck imprinted on my new GYN when she said "if your periods are super painful, you could just not have them" after a decade of prior GYNs just shrugging and giving me Motrin.
