The FL Division of Emergency Management works to ensure that FL is prepared to respond to emergencies, recover from them, and mitigate against their impacts.
⚠️ King tides are occurring NOW along FL’s East Coast, with rainfall & onshore winds expected to increase the risk of coastal flooding into next week.
What are king tides & why are they important?
🌊 King tides are exceptionally high tides that occur at certain times of the year due to the combined gravitational effects of the moon.
This rising water can lead to flooding, even when it’s not raining.

🌊 Due to a combination of strong northeasterly winds & ongoing king tides, moderate to major coastal flooding is expected along Florida’s East Coast, extending to the Florida Keys, & along the tidal St. Johns River.
Water levels will rise and inundate normally dry areas at high tides, flooding roads & threatening homes & businesses in coastal & low-lying areas. 🏠
Prepare now to protect your property:
▪️ Use sandbags to help reduce water intrusion.
▪️ Move vehicles, valuables & important items to higher ground.
▪️ Secure outdoor items & move them away from areas that could flood.
Check with your county’s emergency management office for available sandbag assistance at https://t.co/Df0KUdrbN9.
Don’t wait for water to rise. Prep now! ⚠️

🌊 This weekend, dangerous beach conditions are expected along FL's East Coast. Hazards include: ▪️ Rough & battering surf with potential for tropical storm like waves of up to 10-15 ft. ▪️ Life threatening rip currents ▪️ Coastal flooding that may make portions of the beach unsafe or inaccessible 🚫 Avoid the coast & monitor local forecasts for updates. https://t.co/MmzncM81ek
⚠️Heads Up!
Upcoming full moon will generate high astronomical tides Sunday into next week. These tides combine with strong onshore flow to create multiple hazards for coastal NE FL & SE GA, including moderate coastal flooding, gusty winds & hazardous beach & boating conditions.
🌀 Long before Hurricane #Isaias approached Florida, @FLSERT's Meteorology Team was monitoring the Gulf for potential tropical development in coordination with @NWS.
Working around the clock, our meteorologists provide critical forecasts, weather updates & expert guidance to help inform decisions before, during & after severe weather.

🌀 How does the FEMA disaster declaration process work?

1️⃣ @FLSERT Activation
2️⃣ Initial Damage Assessments
3️⃣ Joint Damage Assessments
4️⃣ Disaster Declaration Request
5️⃣ Federal Review & Final Decision
A presidential disaster declaration can make federal assistance available to eligible individuals, households & communities impacted by a disaster.
