I watched with disappointment the recent interview granted by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to Channels Television on Monday.

After a prolonged absence from public discourse, one would have expected that time away might have sharpened Senator Sheriff’s judgment. Regrettably, that does not appear to be the case.

In the interview, the former governor claimed that Peter Obi cannot command sizeable support in Northern Nigeria. It is curious that he has appointed himself spokesperson for the Northern masses. For the record, in his first outing on the presidential ballot, Mr. Obi secured approximately 2.8 million votes in the region — a remarkable achievement that cannot be dismissed lightly.

Given the current national hardships, the widespread consensus on the failure of the APC administration, and the addition of a strong Northern figure to the ticket who previously garnered 1.45 million votes in the region, the OK ticket remains a formidable force in Northern politics.

Even more surprising was Senator Sheriff’s assertion that the people of Kano would not vote for Mr. Obi. Let me state clearly: the good people of Kano are neither bigoted nor xenophobic. They have consistently demonstrated strong trust in the Kwankwasiyya movement and will support any credible ticket presented under its banner.

I respectfully advise Senator Sheriff that, in future national television appearances, he would do better to speak to the serious insecurity and humanitarian challenges facing his home state, rather than making divisive and poorly considered remarks.

The OK ticket currently represents the best opportunity for Nigerians to reset the country and place it on a path of competence, unity, and progress. - RMK

After more than four years of inactivity, the Guzu-Guzu Regional Water Scheme, a 7.2 million litres-per-day (MLD) water treatment plant serving Kabo and Rimin Gado Local Government Areas, has produced its first drop of water once again.

The rehabilitation works include the installation of a new 800 kVA generator set, repairs to four raw water pumps, and the rehabilitation of the powerhouse, staff offices, and security facilities to restore the scheme to full operational capacity.

As part of the testing and commissioning phase, communities within the scheme's catchment area will begin receiving water supply from tomorrow, 8 July 2026, as work continues towards the full restoration of the facility.

The administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains firmly committed to reviving all 19 Regional Water Schemes across Kano State to ensure sustainable access to safe and potable water for all our people.

Today, I conducted an inspection of the ongoing water supply restoration works, where we witnessed the successful pumping of treated water from the Challawa Water Treatment Plant to the Goron Dutse Reservoir while also assessing sections of the transmission pipeline network.

This marks another important milestone in our efforts to restore water supply across Kano State. Once fully rehabilitated, the Goron Dutse Reservoir will have the capacity to store up to 40 million litres of treated water, while the Challawa Water Treatment Plant, responsible for supplying about 51% of Greater Kano's water demand, continues to undergo comprehensive rehabilitation to restore its full operational capacity.

As we work tirelessly to revive our water infrastructure, protecting these public assets is a shared responsibility. We must collectively safeguard our pipelines, reservoirs, and other critical facilities from vandalism and misuse to ensure that these investments continue to serve the people for many years to come.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, we remain committed to delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply to the people of Kano State.

Following the inspection visit to the Joda Regional Water Scheme last week, I am pleased to report that rehabilitation works commenced immediately. This facility has not pumped a single liter of water in seven years, making this swift intervention both critical and historic.

Significant progress has already been made: four tube wells have been repaired and are currently active, successfully filling the facility's two storage tanks to their combined 720,000-liter capacity. One of the generators used to power the facility has been successfully fixed. Repairs on the second generator, along with the restoration of the main electricity supply, are expected to be completed by tomorrow.

Out of the four high-lift pumps at the facility, two have been fixed and are already working, while repairs on the remaining two are currently underway. With these operational, this plant, which boasts a 9.6 MLD (million liters per day) capacity, will begin pumping water to the communities along its distribution lines in the coming days.

This administration, under the leadership of the Executive Governor, Alhaji Abba K. Yusuf, remains deeply committed to restoring rural water supply. To ensure the Joda plant is restored to its full operational capacity, the Governor has ordered the construction of additional tube wells, as well as the complete rehabilitation of the administrative offices and other vital infrastructure.
Our collective efforts are yielding tangible results for the people.

His Highness performed this historic act representing all the traditional rulers and institutions across Kano State, anchoring our collective royal and civic commitment to addressing the growing challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.

I deeply commend His Highness for his invaluable support for environmental sustainability and for lending his powerful voice to this important cause. I also call on communities, institutions, private organisations, and development partners to join hands with us in ensuring the success of this ambitious programme.

I was deeply honoured to host a high-powered solidarity visit from the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum at my residence in Abuja.

The delegation was led by Dr. S. N. Okeke, Chairman of the Ohanaeze Council of Elders for the 19 States and the FCT, alongside former Governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo. The elders expressed strong appreciation for the growing and cordial partnership between myself and His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). They pledged their unwavering support for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket and assured the movement of massive electoral backing across the South-East and the wider Southern region.

In my response, I thanked the delegation for their visit and for the opportunity to exchange views on the state of the nation. Following the launch of the 2026 Statewide Drainage Clearance Exercise last week, which includes the Madobi Underpass, Jakara-Kwarin Gogau, Baban Gwari, among others, we have begun distributing specialized desilting equipment to registered self-help groups across the state.

This ongoing rollout empowers local communities to handle minor drainage clearance in their neighborhoods, perfectly complementing the Ministry’s continuous work in cleaning major waterways.

We urge residents to reach out and collaborate with these designated groups to ensure smooth clearance operations. Taking these proactive steps together is essential for preventing urban flooding and protecting our homes.

Inspired by the visionary leadership of our amiable Governor, Alh. Abba K. Yusuf, this proactive intervention targets one of our most critical flood-control channels to provide lasting relief to historically vulnerable communities.

At the Ministry, we are working round the clock to ensure that our neighborhoods remain safe and resilient throughout the rainy season. While we clear major waterways to ensure a flood-free Kano—with plans already in place to deploy specialized desilting equipment to self-help groups next week—I urge all residents to take ownership of their environment by putting an end to improper waste dumping in our drainages. Together, we can build a cleaner, safer, and more climate-resilient state where every family has the opportunity to thrive.
