With the total number of submissions made on the Treaty Principles Bill set to be released tomorrow, bill sponsor David Seymour has played down the unprecedented response from Māori & non-Māori, claiming “…the numbers at the end of the day aren’t really what matters” while continuing to subtly push for a referendum.
Moving forward the Justice select committee have indicated they have received more requests for oral submissions than they have capacity to accommodate, so only a small proportion of these will be heard. The committee expects to have these wrapped up by the end of February.
Submissions that meet the eligibility criteria will be tabled & released as soon as possible, with the committee ultimately expected to report back to the House on the bill in May paving the way for Luxon & co to vote it down soon after as promised. “We’re going to spike it, kill it don’t worry” as he says in yesterday’s below 3 News report.
🔥 If you haven’t already made sure your voice is heard time is fast running out to make your submission opposing the ACT Party’s Treaty Principles Bill which closes off at 11:59pm on Tuesday 7 January.
I’ve included a direct link to parliaments website page in the comments below showing you where to make your submission along with TikToker Brie Elliot’s clip in which she shares her own experience of going through & completing the process.

🔥 Greens co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick utterly nails it in her response to todays release of the Half Year & Fiscal Update (HYEFU) which saw Finance Minister #NickyNoBoats Willis walk out of the House less than halfway through her speech.
