DRDO’s Shivalik hand grenade failed trials for decades not because of bad science, but bad manufacturing. Made with the erstwhile OFB, quality issues killed induction.

Later, Solar Industries got the ToT, fixed processes, improved materials and the same grenade is now being bought by the Army in lakhs.

Design wasn’t the problem. Production capability was. That’s the real lesson for India’s defence ecosystem.
