@fromthasouthhhh@CultureCrave Yeah I still hold to my previous statement man. The combat looks awesome and if the story and mission design are well done I don’t mind. These days between work and family I don’t have the time to sink a hundred hours into a game any way lol.
I guess I entered this discussion looking for more substance. Real reasons for the hate. Most of the arguments I’ve heard against the game have been, “why is it a woman?” And “it’s not what I wanted! How dare they not give me what I want!” Which both to me equate to temper tantrums. Would I have wanted another Kratos game? Of course! Would an Atreus game have been dope? Of course! Am I entitled enough to moan and cry because the studio went a different direction? Nah, if it looks cool I’ll play this new game, if not then I won’t and I’ll move on, cuz there’s a lot of damn games to go around lol. But everyone is running around like this is some kind of damn catastrophe “that will kill Santa Monica” lol no it won’t and it’s not.
What’s pointless about it? Seems to me like the studio is trying to expand the GoW universe. Now, that can either work out or not, but I wouldn’t say it’s pointless. There is no swapping going on here either. The studio literally told us its not a prequel or sequel, but actually happing simultaneously as the GoW 2018 and Ragnarok. It’s expanding the story not replacing Kratos. If anything Atreus will probably take that replacement role in the future.
It’s a consumer product man. No one has to ask for it. It is produced, marketed, the product either sells or doesn’t.
It will only damage the brand if it turn out to be bad. We don’t have enough data to say one way or the other.
It feels different because you’re not playing as Kratos. It should feel different.
I still don’t know why playing as a different character in the GoW universe is a bad thing though. Would it be bad if we played as Atreus instead of Kratos in some future game?
@lipefleming@3DGraphixxx@IGN That’s cool. Nothing wrong with not being interested. All I’m saying is “I don’t like it” or “I’m not interested” Does not equate to “it is bad” or “it is terrible.” Which is the current argument going around.
Honestly people just need to give it a chance. I agree with the hard truth that some games go beyond wearing their agenda on their sleeve and go straight to shoving it down your throat. However, I didn’t even see anything woke in the 20 minutes of play we saw lol. It looked cool in my opinion.
@Dontwor39926430@ALegendaryDrops Bro I seriously doubt this will kill Santa Monica. Santa Monica is hardly Ubisoft. Ubisoft had been struggling for decades before it got delt the killing blow. I could be wrong, but I have a hunch the game will sell very very well. I guess we’ll see though.
@sealpenguin4@ALegendaryDrops Eh, guess it’s not that lore breaking for me. I’ll give it a chance and see where it goes. If the writing works cool if not then I suspect the core game mechanics will still make it fun. The visceral reaction is so unnecessary in my opinion though.
Of course they have to be connected man. All I’m saying is new information changes future outcomes but it doesn’t change past experiences. Kratos and Atreus experienced the whole thing and that doesn’t change. They may now be able to see Faye again, or learn that she doesn’t have to stay dead, or maybe she still stays dead after the whole thing. That’s new information that will undoubtedly change the future trajectory of the games. However, none of that is intrinsically “bad” you just don’t like it, and that’s fine. This whole post has been me having to explain to people the difference between subjective experience or in your case preference, and objective truth. “I don’t like it” does not equate to “it is bad” lol.
@sealpenguin4@ALegendaryDrops You didn’t really address any of the points I made, except for pointing out the obvious by stating they aren’t following mythology to a t, which is my point. What are you saying exactly?
Lol I don’t think this is making the point you think it’s making. You can follow the mythology strictly and Faye ends up in Helheim, which is far from paradise, because she was a Giant, they don’t go to Valhalla, or you can apply it loosely and she goes to Valhalla. If she goes to Valhalla, she’s battling, drinking, and feasting every day. Pretty similar to the montage you just showed lol. Or you can try to make something original and come up with the concept of Everwhen and the different divine portals. Either way she’s not going Elysium. What after life did you think Faye would get?
Closure is still there for Kratos and his son. That stuff still happened. There is just a part of that journey that Faye undertook that Kratos and Atreus aren’t aware off. The events in this new game are not post Ragnarok. The studio has already confirmed that this is happening simultaneously as the events in 2018 and Ragnarok. Meaning the continuity isn’t affected at all.
