@alexg07698565@EdwardW87142103@UOITFA@DrStevenMurphy I am a TA and I can assure you that professors do all of those things. Behind every 3 hours of lecture that you attend is *at least* 10 hours of work by the prof. That includes prepping the lecture, exchanging emails with students, uploading material to canvas, etc.
@alexg07698565@UOITFA@DrStevenMurphy The thread that is shared above, and growing student support on social media and the picket line, is evidence of the contrary. Make sure to support your statements with evidence #TAadviceoftheday
I am a veteran of the 2012 #PrintempsÉrable student protest in Québec, this ain't my first rodeo. I am ready to stand with @UOITFA during #ONtrikeU as long as it takes for a fair bargain to be struck @ontariotech_u
The lack of support showed by @ontariotech_u and @DrStevenMurphy on the topic of @UOITFA workload will certainly discourage current undergraduate students from pursuing grad education and current Masters students from pursuing a PhD at @ontariotech_u
The ever-increasing workload imparted on academics is one of the reasons why I have chosen not to stay in academia after my PhD, the disregard showed by @ontariotech_u and @DrStevenMurphy on this topic is only supporting this choice.
I have submitted my PhD dissertation but can't currently schedule my defence and could miss the mandated deadlines to do so if the strike continues. This could lead to missed job opportunities, loss of income + having to pay extra tuition. However, I support @UOITFA#ONstrikeU
With the ongoing @UOITFA strike and the apparent resistance of @ontariotech_u@DrStevenMurphy to recognize the importance of the issues at stake, it is important to discuss the short- and long-term consequences of the current situation on grad students and academia🧵#ONstrikeU
@MTzivaki @DenommeWill and I recently discovered that there are a lot! But we had to do that work mostly on our own. I understand that most faculty members have only worked in academia and can only speak to their experiences. However, it’s their duty as mentors to present all paths
