@patronaut0709 @OffTargetEffect That’s great you were able to make it work! My lab work unfortunately usually required me to be there 7 days/wk. We also had to sign docs every semester that we were doing research minimum 40 hrs/wk (mine was usually ~60).

@patronaut0709 @OffTargetEffect Yes, same here, wasn’t allowed to work! The expectation that since we get paid a stipend, we should be devoting all of our time and energy to research. Even doing volunteer/outreach work was frowned upon...

@OffTargetEffect Used to spend $1.2k/yr of my $27k PhD stipend to pay for parking. School wasn’t in a good neighborhood. With long days & late nights in the lab, parking off campus & public transport weren’t an option. They made serious $$$ by robbing their own students w/all sorts of fees.
