White Zinfandel was invented by @SutterHome in early 1970.
Originally made as a vineyard, tasting room exclusive wine. It was given the name Oeil de Perdrix but when bottled for retail sale and because of American wine law, the label had to identify the varietal. Therefore the label said “White Zinfandel.”
It was originally some free-run juice that was barrel aged, bottled and sold. In one special year, fermentation got stuck therefore leaving residual sugar behind and accidentally produced the sweeter wine many enjoy today.
Zinfandel
For years believed to originate from the United States of America but was recently proven to be the same grape as Italy’s Primitivo and Croatia’s Tribidrag.

Merlot is very food friendly and can be quite versatile when pairing it with foods.
This is because the grape, Merlot, tends to be higher in sugar and low in acidity.
(This does not mean the finished product, your wine, is sweet)

Merlot is quite sensitive to light and oxidizes easily.
Therefore, you may quickly notice it turn a light shade of orange around the rim of your wine glass.

As one eases into the world of red wine, the first question I would ask myself is, what is it about white wine that you prefer?
