Our research examines the function and structure of the brain, peripheral nervous system, embryo and placenta in development & disease. Tweets by @BobbiFleiss
So proud of all the RMIT research fellows - but special shout-out to @JessHolien, @DrQuinn4realz and @BobbiFleiss from the STEM college who were highlighted at todays Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellow event.

Incredibly honoured to announce I am one of three ECRs who have made it to the finals of the @FameLab competition
Genuinely the semi finals were full of talented & friendly science communicators
Can't wait to see the rest of the finalists in Perth later this year!
So excited to be getting together IRL today to celebrate our HDR students and welcome our new staff. 🎉🧫🧬🔬

Are you looking for a quick overview of different #cells found inside the 🧠? If so, check out the 'Why is the #brain vulnerable' playlist on #premstem's #YouTube channel for some easy to digest short #videos featuring astrocytes, microglia and more!

Perivascular macrophages (PVM) self-renew, meaning they're with us our whole life! PVM are an immune cell found in the space around blood vessels. They migrate into the #brain early in the development of the central nervous system. #BrainWeek#premstem

Refeeding syndrome - the demineralisation of bone to enable rapid growth leading to blood phosphate and calcium imbalance. Excellent study linking severe refeeding markers with poor outcomes and death. From Dr Barbara Cormack @AucklandLiggins#PSANZ2023
Picture above show that Dr Sam Ebenezer Athikarisamy’s data @UWAresearch is supported by two other research papers. Really interesting work. Arguably smaller than ideal numbers - but well considered and valuable.
Interesting retrospective cohort study- in preterms chorio reduces the risk of ROP, but steroids and platelet transfusion (and 02 supp, expected) increased risk. Further work needed to understand what inflammation alone does to retinal growth factor production.
Fascinating studies of the differences in breastmilk over time by Dr Mariana Meulbert from @AucklandLiggins - may hold keys to supporting growth in babies with sub-optimal growth. #PSANZ2023
We are failing our First Nations people. Staggering rates of early infant death. This can be improved with more woman-centred care on country. @mypsanz#PSANZ2023
It’s on and we couldn’t be prouder of @Nhi_Thao_Tran, @sajidamalik14 & @CourtGilx from the teams of @SJSpencerLab and @mtolcos who are graduating with their PhDs today!! Fireworks, live music and so much excitement. Not even Melb’s weather can dampen the atmosphere. @ResearchRMIT
