Exhaust update complete: AKROBAVIC Ver. 3. 0. Added balance pipes between 2-3 and under the oil pan. Torque dip at 5000rpm is nearly gone, with a strong pull from 6000rpm onward. Next: fine carb tuning and a dyno run.

Last week’s Kofu tour was more draining than expected, so this week I headed to Okutama. My first ride there in nearly two years. The northbound descent finally felt natural, and I’m gaining confidence. Still chasing the right preload setup.

A café I’d wanted to visit for ages. Open only Thursdays, so I went when I happened to have the day off. One of my all-time top 3 for atmosphere, with such kind owners and staff. I bought scones and anpan to take home.

These three days were the final stretch for the FZ996R. After a light Friday shakedown, paint, assembly, adjustments, and a 100km break-in ride, valve clearance remained within spec. Final assembly awaits the remaining parts. Almost there.

Still assembling. I realized I may have made an engine assembly mistake. I need to remove the camshaft to check, so I’ll reshuffle my shims to even out tappet clearances as much as possible. Better to avoid an over-range clearance after break-in.

It’s February. As planned, the FZ is in the shop and being dismantled. This one looks challenging too, but I’m pushing forward, trusting the result. I’ve also started prototyping new winglets during the rebuild.
