There are two more *lavishly* illustrated books that show in vivid detail what the warriors, buildings, and ships of the Trojan War and Odysseus’s journey home looked like. They are both by the brilliant Peter Connelly. They are:

Books About What Ancient Greek Warriors Looked Like

Dear Mr. Musk, I, Stephen Richey, am a retired U.S. Army officer. I applaud your plans to make a movie version of the Odyssey that will be historically accurate. A key part of achieving historical accuracy is getting the look of Greek warriors to be correct for the period around 1200 B.C. This includes correct helmets, armor, weapons, and gear. I have a Master of Arts degree in History, and I possess expertise in ancient Greek warfare, so I know what I’m talking about. There are two profusely illustrated books which show in great detail the helmets, armor, weapons, and gear of Greek warriors during the time of the Trojan War. These two books are:

The Mycenaeans c. 1650-1100 BC by Nicolas Grguric and Angus McBride

and

Bronze Age Greek Warrior 1600-1100 BC by Raffaele D’Amato, Andrea Salimbeti, and Giuseppe Rava.

Equally important as getting the warriors themselves correct is getting their buildings, fortresses, palaces, and cities correct. There are two profusely illustrated books which show in great detail how these buildings, fortresses, palaces, and cities looked. These two books are:

Mycenaean Citadels c. 1350-1200 BC by Nic Fields and Donato Spedaliere

and

Troy c. 1700-1250 BC by Nic Fields and Donato Spedaliere.
