Correct. The MN state flag features an eight-pointed star (which isn't found on any national flags in Africa), a (very original!) stylized shape/outline of the state in dark blue, and two different shades of blue - neither of which is the same color as the Somali flag.

@WCCO “Flag expert” is a lot easier to spell and say than vexillologist, that’s for sure! If you haven’t heard of Ted Kaye, you’ve missed out on one of the best @TEDTalks out there featuring him and @RomanMars: https://t.co/YuOxICmFH3

After thousands of submissions and months of deliberation, Minnesota has a new state flag. Its modern design replaces the controversial state seal, which Minnesota had used on its flag since 1893. What do you think of the new design? https://t.co/MHOEWu9Bul

The North Star state just dropped the best new flag, so we had to mark the occasion with our own version.

s/o to @vdgraph for the design
"You can't make everybody happy, but Minnesota will come to be extremely proud of this flag," said Ted Kaye of the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). "The state has seized a wonderful opportunity to improve its symbolism."
Okay, I’m adjusting to the new Minnesota flag. Yes, I had other choices😉, some views. But this morning I’m embracing it. Big time. All in. Why? Because so many people across the state got involved. That’s civics. That’s MN. And also because I loved this ⬇️, dog and all.
✔️Keep It Simple.
✔️Use Meaningful Symbolism.
✔️Use 2 or 3 Basic Colors
✔️No Lettering or Seals
✔️Be Distinctive or Be Related
Minnesota will have a new state flag on May 11 - Statehood Day - if the #mnleg doesn't veto the design. #vexillology#NewMNflag
I've seen some people with profile pictures of the new Minnesota flag, but most appear to be incorrectly cropped and pixelated. I made some flag-accurate options, so feel free to download and use! #NewMNFlag
When I introduced legislation to allow counties to vote to live under the laws and taxes of a neighboring State, I researched buying a hundred South Dakota flags to hand out to people. I was bummed to learn that their flag was as boring and indistinguishable as ours, along with 21 other states who have a round seal on a blue background. I learned that Republican Congressman Gil Gutknecht introduced legislation to change the State flag decades ago and, although this flag is slightly different than his, I am happy to see a design that is simple and recognizable when being flown.
To my conservative friends: stop holding onto and defending a boring and indistingushable flag. Was there a risk the commission could adopt some radical BLM or Antifa flag? Maybe. But they didn't. Stop wasting energy and resources balking about erasing history. The old flags will fly until they are tattered and ready to replace.
We have a hundred radical policies and tax increases to attack democrats on. Stopping the new state flag isn't productive. I, for one, support this, and I like the flag. Major improvement.
This post might attract more hate mail than when I suggested we go on year-round daylight savings time, but I am curious why you support keeping a flag that, from 50' away, looks like 23 other states.
