“As scientists and pracademics, you need different tools around different situations. There’s other ways to deal w/ crime than arrest. This is a mentality that must change. When it comes to crime prevention, the community can play a lead role,” @alex_gis_ @RutgersSCJ. #NIJ2023
Great discussion on spatial analysis (crime mapping, hot spots, etc) & the importance of recognizing that #community live in these areas. It’s crucial to consider that #police may not always be the best response. #CommunityEngagement & a multidisciplinary approach is key.
It’s communities who are at the core of public safety. As we further develop this amazing tech for crime analysis, how can we keep them rooted in community? #NIJ2023
Today, the @NewarkNPSC team joined @UVSO’s community outreach team in a community walk on South Orange Ave to discuss ongoing data-informed community engagement efforts in Newark’s Vailsburg.
