The flag of Jamaica was adopted 61 years ago today, on 6 Aug 1962. It was designed by a bipartisan committee of the House of Representatives after a competition with 360 submissions failed to yield a winner. The colours were originally interpreted as "hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth”, but in 1996 it was changed to black representing the strength and creativity of the people which has allowed them to overcome difficulties, gold for the wealth of the country and the sunshine, and green for the island’s lush vegetation, and hope. It is the world’s only national flag that does not contain red, white, or blue. #Jamaica
@JamaicaObserver When I was on a project in Dominican Republic some of the private guards carried shotguns Those type of guns allow greater firepower effective at short range with less risk to general public.
Just saying.
Today's World Oceans Day theme ‘The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods’ celebrates how our oceans sustain people and planet. Our GK Foundation's #KHEAMProject is helping to preserve our oceans, through the rehabilitation of mangroves in the Kingston Harbour
@matthewsamuda Great to get the Guns. Getting the Gun Runners would be even better. It’s a business and we need to crack the supply chain - from source. Work with Kamela Harris - VPOTUS
Tomorrow June 5 is World Environment Day. Let’s celebrate it with some personal action, no matter how small. Give Nature a moment to breathe, clean. This is the UN designated Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. Plant a tree or better still a Mangrove.
@jamentrust@dmccaulay@JamaicaGleaner Palisadoes strip is not given recognition for the CRITICAL role it plays in defending Kingston/Portmore from storm surges & tsunamis. Healthy #mangroves key for this. Category 6 Hurricanes will now devastate #KingstonHarbour coastal communities - for real! #kheamproject
Mangroves are around 50x more cost effective than cement sea walls at protecting coastlines from extreme weather, so are a great nature based solution for companies to explore.
We've been working on a mangrove restoration project in Pakistan ➡️ https://t.co/iyoUFhA6xd
