The opening ceremony was in the park though, rather than the common, so bearing that in mind, if it was westwards, I can’t quite work out where the photographer was standing. It’s a conundrum!

I agree with Mark, photo taken from the park looking north/north-east. The wooded area is likely Homestall Farm Land. Buildings in the background long gone!
