@disastersafety knows #WhyWeDoWhatWeDo: B/C severe weather drives real suffering & loss. Yesterday, our CEO visited the tragic remains of his parents' Paradise, CA, neighborhood.#ResilienceNow We're NOT helpless. We can narrow the path of damage! https://t.co/3E6Pb7o6Q4
IBHS #researchers are solving the latest building #science problems with new solutions and technology.
The latest example, an omnidirectional impact disdrometer, is a wind-driven hail probe that captures #hail impacts from multiple directions. The innovative tool helps us better understand how sideways hail impacts siding, a common source of damage during severe storms.
Today, IBHS joined @CaliforniaBIA and @KBHome ahead of @PCBC_TheShow to show how builders can lead on wildfire resilience in #California. 🔥 At our #wildfire demo, science-backed mitigation proved key to protecting homes against future events. Learn more at https://t.co/cuX7WdGlCI.
When #SevereWeather impacts a roof, it creates an opening for the elements to enter the #home, leading to a cascade of damage and potential loss of belongings.
Want to know more about your #roof? IBHS's new resource Roof 101 can help you learn more about the roof materials on your home. Visit https://t.co/qKLXhJW83Y to check it out.
#DidYouKnow your fence could leave your home vulnerable during a #wildfire? Fences made of combustible materials like wood can ignite when embers accumulate, leading a fire directly to the house.
🔥 Hot tip: Replace wood or plastic fences within 5 feet of your home with a metal one.
A roof keeps Mother Nature out during severe weather. ⛈️
Learn the components of your roof with IBHS's Roof 101 so you can ensure it's ready for the next storm. Find the resource at https://t.co/0NHaSFAJX2.
🌀 This category 4 event that devastated Darwin, Australia, on Christmas Eve 1974 left 90% of the town's residential homes uninhabitable and tens of thousands of residents homeless.
🇦🇺 Hear from Dr. Geoff Boughton, Adjunct Associate Professor at the @jcu Cyclone Testing Station, on how this event changed his career path and learn about the latest work from #IBHS Research Engineer Dr. Korah Parackal.

🚨 Breaking news in community wildfire mitigation!
This week, @KBHome, one of the largest homebuilders in the nation, unveiled the first-ever Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood based on IBHS #research.
What you need to know: ⤵️
🔥 Building on IBHS’s Wildfire Prepared Home program, we are launching a neighborhood-level designation program – Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood.
📝 The latest research is clear: Both #home- and neighborhood-level mitigation strategies are vital in preventing #wildfires from becoming catastrophic.
🏠 Each of Dixon Trail’s 64 homes are being built to the Wildfire Prepared Home™ Plus standard.
📄 The community has received a provisional designation based on a review of the design. Once the neighborhood is complete and has passed an independent evaluation, a final Wildfire Prepared Neighborhood designation will be issued.
