A lot of has happened over the last 10 months of the UofSC Presidential Search. It's impossible to an activist for positive change without the facts. Here's what you need to know. ⬇️ THREAD ⬇️
NextEra UofSC is disheartened to learn of the death of Trustee Fennell. While we may have had our differences, Mr. Fennell was a dedicated alumnus and ardent supporter of the University. Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this time.
We’re saddened to learn about the death of #UofSC Trustee Bubba Fennell, a leader, a servant and a lifelong Gamecock. The hearts of Gamecock nation go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
While we respect the authority of SACS, NextEra @UofSC firmly disagrees with their decision to let this injustice go unpunished. @henrymcmaster’s political influence played a major role in the selection of @Bob_Caslen as the 29th President, as laid out in the...
For students and faculty, know that this is not the end of the fight. Together, we must act to secure the future of the UofSC and ensure that all stakeholders have a voice in its direction.
We look forward to working with legislators and the BoT to meet this goal.
Given the willingness of the BoT to put their own interests above those of the university at large, be sure to CALL your SC legislator and let them know that it’s time for a change in @UofSC’s leadership. Starting with the BoT.
The events of the week have shown the sheer ineptitude of @UofSC’s newest administration. For many, this is a rude awakening. For others, this was to be expected. It is increasingly clear that the BoT acted in its own political interests, not in the interest of the university.
Are you still unsure as to whether or not ‘undue political influence’ played a role in @UofSC selecting Bob Caslen as its 29th President? Look no further than this article.
@NextEraUofSC Key word being ALL!!! I want to be able to give him the benefit of a doubt. That being said, actions speak louder than words and without real policy changes he’ll be seen as just another figurehead manipulated by a corrupt BoT with no real plan to change the systems in place.
With due respect to President Caslen, events such as these come across as free PR photos. Coming up on the end of his first one hundred days, it is now time to see if President Caslen will begin acting on the feedback he has received from ALL students and faculty members.

Between @OleMissRebels, @MDCollege, and @UofSC, the corruption of Higher Education by government leaders could not be more apparent. Now is the time to more than just recognize the problem, but to act to ensure transparent and democratic governance for our Higher Ed institutions.

@UofSC, @OleMissRebels, @MDCollege — all subject to the same politically charged attacks on higher education. Students, faculty, and alumni must work together towards local and national reform to ensure transparency, democracy, and equity at higher ed. institutes nationwide.
Over a month after the original requests, many members of the Board of Trustees @UofSC are still refusing to hand over documents related to the Presidential Search. As they are public servants, every South Carolinian should be outraged by this circumventing of democracy.
The threat to UofSC’s accreditation is perhaps the most worrisome of the fallout resulting from the flawed and corrupt Presidential Search. The BoT’s disregard of process and bylaws threatens the future of @UofSC as SC’s flagship research university.

As students, faculty, and alumni, we must band together at both the local and national levels, and work towards Higher Ed reform that will remove partisan politics from our colleges and universities. Stand strong, @OleMissRebels, we are with you!
We stand in support of student activists at @OleMissRebels. Just like ours in July, their search for a new University leader has been fraught with corruption. This issue is bigger than our individual universities, as our leaders continue to disregard the needs of Higher Ed.
Nice work by @RivalsChase of Rebel Grove exposing the corrupt process that led to the hiring of Glenn Boyce. The IHL has outlived its usefulness, if they ever had one.

The formation of this special panel to review the @UofSC Presidential search is yet another example of the fallout due to the Board’s illegal actions. We hope that this panel will review all documents, including those still withheld by the BoT, and work in the interest of UofSC.
SC Senate forms panel to review @UofSC president search. Greg Gregory, former USC trustee who supported Bob Caslen's hiring, is chair. Panel includes Darrell Jackson and Dick Harpootlian, critics of the search, as well as Katrina Shealy and Tom Young
