I taught at a primary school years ago. One female student would always bring me food and gifts, saying they were from her mum. When she got to JHS, she eventually told me she liked me and couldn’t concentrate in class whenever I was around. I can’t say the extent she went and thing she did. I also found out she was staying with an aunt who didn’t care or had time.

That experience taught me that being a teacher is about more than teaching. Students can become attached to their teachers, and it’s up to the adult to maintain clear boundaries. If you lack discipline and professionalism, you’ll get yourself into trouble.
