I am no one to judge anyone's decisions. But the political atmosphere in the country today is deeply depressing. As someone who has been part of politics from within, I often wonder how it appears to outsiders, especially the younger generation.
The excessive concentration of power in a few hands, weakening ideological commitment, the absence of meaningful and deeply deliberative democratic consultation, the erosion of internal democracy, corrupt practices, and gender, caste, and class discrimination within political parties are deeply concerning. These are not minor flaws. They undermine the very values that politics is meant to uphold.
What makes this even more worrying is the larger political context. At a time when an authoritarian and fascist regime is threatening the country's democratic and liberal constitutional framework, weakening institutions, and attempting to manipulate even the electoral process, one would expect political parties to stand firmly and unitedly in defence of democratic values. Instead, barring a few individuals, much of the political parties across the spectrum seems trapped in internal power struggles, expediency, and short term calculations.
When principles appear negotiable and political choices become increasingly difficult to explain, we end up reinforcing the very cynicism and resentment that many people, especially the youth, feel towards conventional political parties. That should concern all of us.
As someone who has dedicated a significant part of my life to politics, it pains me to say this. But increasingly, I feel that citizens themselves may have to find their own ways to defend democracy, constitutional values, and the idea of India. I say this with deep sadness and a sense of responsibility. Yet, at this moment, it feels like the only way forward.
• Joining a non BJP party gives rebels slightly better legal grounding in court
• Helps avoid direct anti defection questions
• Politically, BJP still gains indirect support
• Next big fight likely over symbol and party assets, like NCP and Shiv Sena
TMC rebels :
Will merge with Nationalist Citizens Party (NCP)
Indian Democracy has become the “theatre of the absurd”
A joke !
The rebels of the TMC legislative party cannot merge with a political party ; that can happen only if the TMC wished to do so !
Disqualify them !
When we are young, we love being opinionated. But as time passes, realities catch up. Ideologies often stop mattering to people who are simply trying to survive, looking out for themselves.
This MP is just 33 years old, but had emerged as one of the sharpest critics of the BJP, using art, music and culture as political resistance. Today, she faces the maximum heat and scrutiny…..
TVK’s senior-most minister Sengottaiyan has reportedly been left deeply frustrated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
Sengottaiyan was said to be eagerly expecting one among the Public Works, Rural Development, or Municipal Administration portfolios. However, Vijay first allotted him the Finance Department, which reportedly came as a shock. After he expressed his dissatisfaction, the portfolio was changed to Revenue and Disaster Management during the cabinet expansion. Even then, he was deeply disappointed that he did not get the department he had sought.
The key portfolios he wanted have now gone to Chief Minister Vijay and ministers Anand and Aadhav, making it virtually impossible for him to secure them in the future. Meanwhile, his demand to accommodate his supporters in the cabinet was reportedly ignored. The ministerial seniority list has further upset his camp, with Arunraj placed fourth and Sengottaiyan fifth.
In the announcement of district-wise ministerial responsibilities, Anand and Aadhav were assigned two districts each, while Sengottaiyan was allotted only Erode district. ‘Sengottaiyan is not being given importance, his supporters are being sidelined, and he is not even able to immediately reach Vijay and speak to him whenever he wishes. In this difficult situation, the TVK leadership has also placed Sengottaiyan’s activities under a monitoring mechanism, which has become the ultimate humiliation for him,’ sources say.”

Even Sushmita Dev was struggling to stop herself from laughing out loud.
It seems that Arnab Goswami did not know where Saugata Roy’s loyalties lay. The Dum Dum MP hasn’t abandoned Mamata Banerjee yet.
My parents mostly watch Hindi TV news and till I mentioned it today they really did NOT know about the CBSE fiasco.
That is the condition of our nation.
