@JohncomQ@Orbital_Lexicon I hear you, but the real novel idea that I had come up with was a way to securely link hardware to an NFT, such that only the owner of the NFT can use it / unlock certain features. I had hoped bundling it into a custom nixie tube clock would catch the right peoples' attention.
@Orbital_Lexicon@JohncomQ Even though the Wifi module I opted to use has a registered FCC id, the fact that it’s combined in a new assembly w/ added circuitry for other things like usb, custom 5v-170VDC, and a bunch of switching logic, it requires a retest in the chamber for unintended radiation sadly.
@Orbital_Lexicon@JohncomQ In regards to radiated emissions that’s mainly because analog audio hardware like amps and pedals don’t typically have digital circuitry or operate w/ MHz+ freq clocks.
I agree, it is too cost prohibitive for plebs with a dream, which is why I tried for catalyst funding.
@Orbital_Lexicon@JohncomQ Typically any electronic device, even qty 1, that has some sort of clock or power/safety consideration , needs to be approved by the FCC / other country’s regulating bodies to market and sell. How do you get past this?
@Orbital_Lexicon@JohncomQ They were a part of my never released hardware NFT project that I failed to get funding for from Catalyst . Cryptographically secured unique id with ability to show epoch time or price along with time. Wi-Fi controlled completely custom designed, already built.
@IOHK_Charles I will be a solo validator to help you get to your 10k or 100k validators goal I’d love to run a solo pool and have been dreaming since I helped with the ITN, but I’m out priced, until parameters like k and min fee change! 10k or 100k validators with 3mil ADA is a pipe dream

@whoiskarmahead The Nixie tubes in the clock are original MELZ brand IN-8 tubes from the Soviet era. The hardware is completely custom designed by me and has a cryptographic coprocessor onboard that gives me the ability to connect it to an individual NFT

Hi followers. I've gotten some quotes in regards to certification requirements. Bad news is, if there are no exemptions for art (still looking into that), it will cost upwards of ~$12,000 to do product safety certification and another ~$2000 to do FCC unintentional radiation.
to ship to other countries, it will add to the cost. Europe has its own requirements and will cost another $4k for radiation/conducted emissions and $4K for the safety certification. Thankfully Aus/Jap will only be ~$600 extra each.
i wont be releasing the project until i can confirm regulatory risks are taken care of. ive spent months of time and energy on this project...and its all built. id hate to have to give up on it now because of regulatory and legal costs. stay tuned
it seems like there is a good chance i may have to spend a bunch of time and money on getting the hardware ive built certified in a local EMC testing facility. my project doesnt quite fall under the hobbiest "home-built" category.
ENG time is technically free (me), but what is not listed is any required HW redesign and time it takes to re-spin and reassemble. Each build so far (2) has cost me $xxxx and has taken around a month to complete. Supply chain issues may even stop me from getting the parts i need
