At the World Union of Wholesale Markets Brussels Conference 2025, Oyo State officially joined the union. Representing Governor Seyi Makinde at the event, the Executive Adviser on Agribusiness and International Development Cooperation, Dr @akande_debo delivered a well-received presentation themed, “Nigeria’s Path to Food Security: Subnational Innovation and the Future of Wholesale Markets”.
On the sidelines of the event, Dr Akande connected a local processor in Oyo State with the Belgian Chocolate Company. The parties are working on an agreement on a supply chain that will include establishing a processing centre in Oyo State.
We had productive discussions about investments and partnerships including setting up subsidiary and production companies in Oyo State and partnerships with local industries.
We also talked about technical/vocational education, agribusiness, sustainable development with recycling and support for an international cultural festival.
The EU Nigeria Agribusiness Platform is interested in supporting us on standards and traceability of primary and processed products for export. They also plan to facilitate trade in the European Union and build capacity for indigenous agribusiness SMEs.
This morning, we met with representatives of various organisations in Brussels: ASPAC Technics (water and the environment); Chambre Ivoirienne de Commerce et de l'Industrie de Belgique et Union Européenne (CICIBE); Ivens Construction Company NV (construction and safe storage of liquids); Ecoplast Europe Ltd (recycling of plastic to school and office materials); EU Nigeria Agribusiness Platform; Festival International du Film de Bruxelles (FIFB – international film festivals); GEOxyz (drone technology); MedicCleanAir (healthcare); Purchasers International S.A. (heavy machinery and construction); Terya Group BV (environment); APT International (used metalworking machinery) and HMD Group (heavy machinery).

Last week, the 3⃣ edition of the Nigeria Belgium Luxembourg 🇳🇬🇧🇪🇱🇺 Business Forum @NgBeLuBusForum took place in Brussels, featuring the participation of @seyimakinde, Governor of the dynamically developing Oyo State.
The gathering focused on bankable, non-oil partnerships across several priority sectors — including green technology, digital transformation, infrastructure, agribusiness, financial services, smart health, and others.
#Nigeria 🇳🇬 remains a reservoir of ideas and ambition, home to a young, innovative, and resilient population eager to engage with the world.
On the sidelines of the event, I met with prospective investors and partners including Joachim Goedeweeck, Global Cocoa Sourcing and Sustainability Lead for The Belgium Chocolate Group. We discussed a partnership with our local private investors on our new accelerated project on value tree crops (cocoa, cashew and shea nut) in Oyo State. The accelerated project on value tree crops is supported by @IITA_CGIAR and @CRIN and aimed at revamping old cocoa, cashew and shea nut trees and planting another one million new trees in the next three to four years.
We also met with William Leclef, Partnership Lead – West Africa of IKIC Impact Ventures. IKIC, supported by the Belgian government, will work with us on modern technology on vaccinations and drug storage for our primary healthcare centres in the State.
Yesterday, I delivered a keynote address at the Nigeria Belgium Luxembourg Business Forum in Brussels. It was yet another opportunity to share specific opportunities available for investment and partnerships in Oyo State in the agribusiness, energy, tourism, infrastructure and solid minerals sectors.
