Holy shit… LLMs are lowkey weebs confirmed Even when you ask in Vietnamese, Arabic or pure math, they still somehow drag Japan into the answer
The paper nailed it — this bias isn’t from pre-training, it’s from the “helpful & safe” fine-tuning phase
Researchers proved every LLM is secretly obsessed with Japan.
And they finally figured out why.
They published a paper investigating hidden cultural biases in large language models.
they tested 31,000 questions across 24 different languages on models like gemini, chatgpt, claude, and llama.
they stripped out all geographic hints and just asked the models to pick a place and answer.
the finding was universal.. across a wide range of models and languages, there is a pervasive "obsession" with japanese culture.
even when you prompt them in a language with zero ties to japan, they default to japanese norms, values, and aesthetics at a disproportionately high rate compared to its actual global demographic weight.
the craziest part? they tracked down exactly when the ai develops this obsession.. and it is not from reading the raw internet.
during pre-training, the models actually have a fairly balanced, global view of the world. the obsession gets injected during the safety phase.
when tech companies fine-tune these models to be "helpful, harmless, and polite," the ai starts mapping those corporate safety guidelines directly onto japanese cultural concepts. in the pursuit of creating the perfect, inoffensive, compliant assistant, they warped how the models view the world.
the quantization process (compressing models to run faster locally) actually amplifies this determinism. the smaller and faster your local model is, the more stereotypically it behaves, causing japanese cultural tropes to spike hard.
we spend all this time worrying about existential ai safety, but the real alignment problem is that our most advanced reasoning engines are hyper-fixated on japanese internet culture.
every model upgrade is reinforcing an invisible regional bias that dictates how they generate stories, facts, and code. the cultural commonsense of the internet is not universal..
it’s just localized to whatever the heaviest reddit and anime wiki users were obsessed with.
A man assaults a woman at Tesla for accidentally stepping on his prayer rug → gets fired → months later massacres students in an Austin bar. This isn’t “Islamophobia.” It’s pattern recognition.

Elon Musk reveals that an ex-Tesla employee who assaulted a woman for stepping on his prayer rug went on to kill three students in Austin.
MUSK: "We had someone who was working at the Tesla factory in Austin until December of last year. He was fired because he assaulted a woman who stepped on his prayer rug in the factory. Okay. So she wasn't expecting anyone to be praying in the factory, and he was praying in the factory. She accidentally stepped on his prayer rug, and he assaulted her. He violently assaulted her. So he was fired for that, and then a few months later, he went and killed three students in a bar in downtown Austin. Now, I think we shouldn't let people like that into the country. Do you?"

Elon Musk just pledged ONE of his own SpaceX shares to EVERY kid in America next year — a $10.5 BILLION gift from his personal fortune. While others talk, he delivers. Real wealth creation for the next generation starts here. America is lucky to have him. 🚀📷#ElonMusk#SpaceX
🚨 BREAKING: Elon Musk just pledged to give one of his own SpaceX shares to EVERY child in America next year, a gift worth about $10.5 BILLION
PATRIOT 🇺🇸 👏🏻
"Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many."
There are just over 72 million Americans under 18, and SpaceX closed Friday at $146.03 a share
It's also not the first gift like this from SpaceX. In July, COO Gwynne Shotwell pledged one share to each of 2 million Trump Accounts
Elon is putting his money where his mouth is!
We don’t deserve him 🙏🏻

@WhiteHouse “France is burning because they refused to control their borders.
Trump has been warning about this for years.
Secure the border or lose the country. It’s that simple. America must never make the same mistake.
@XFreeze A car that out-thrusts an F-16 without even using afterburners? Tesla just casually dropped aerospace-level engineering into a street-legal Roadster. Cold-gas thrusters >80 kN… the line between cars and rockets just got deleted. Absolute madness.

My jaw is on the floor
A look at the financial information of a taxpayer funded charter school in Minnesota called Lionsgate Academy shows it’s getting $33.4 million with ONLY 150 STUDENTS ENROLLED
“Graduation rate, 23%…. $34 million, they can't read or write, and their graduation rate is 23%. Why does this school exist? — What is it serving”
I looked into it and confirmed that of their over $33 million dollars in annual funding, 99% comes from taxpayers
What in the heck is going on in Minnesota??
Americans taxpayers are being robbed blind
