After 7 years as an Airbnb Superhost, I’ve hit my first dispute that left me questioning whether the support process is fair to hosts at all. A thread🧵. @AirbnbHelp
6/ I’m not asking Airbnb to ignore guests. I offered a partial refund. I’m asking: should hosts bear 100% of the cost for cosmetic wear, decided by templated replies? Hosts, has this happened to you? @Airbnb@AirbnbHelp
5/ Most concerning: alongside the proposed resolution, Airbnb told me it “can request that the guest refrain from leaving a review.” Airbnb’s own Reviews Policy prohibits withholding reviews in exchange for refunds. I raised this formally. No answer.
4/ The case manager’s summary had factual errors he later acknowledged, yet the decision stood. The decision message still contained the template text “[Insert Reservation Code]”. My appeal got a near-identical reply. My video evidence was never accepted.
3/ The photos accepted as proof of “failed cleanliness”: paint scratches, adhesive sealant along furniture joints, frost in a mini-fridge, marks near a ceiling-mounted projector. Is normal wear in a lived-in apartment now “not habitable”?
2/ A guest left ~2 hrs after check-in, citing a low shower ceiling and pump noise, both disclosed in the listing. I offered a free upgrade to a larger 2BR and a 30% refund. Airbnb ordered a 100% refund, deducted from my payout.
It’s unfair, it’s discouraging, and it’s damaging to Hosts who work hard to maintain quality and trust on this platform.
Anyone of you have the same problem or used to in the same circumstanse, pls help to share
@Airbnb@AirbnbHelp chose to keep a clearly retaliatory review. Airbnb has decided to keep a clearly retaliatory review from a guest. The complaint is solely about a denied refund, not about the stay and yet Airbnb says this review is valid, even after I appealed twice.
@AirbnbHelp@Airbnb allowing this kind of retaliatory review to stand sends a very clear message: "Guests can pressure Hosts using reviews, and Hosts will not be protected even when enforcing Airbnb policies"
No evidence from the Host was requested. No consideration of dozens of consistent 5★ reviews before and after. Just a one-sided decision that punishes Hosts for following Airbnb’s own rules.
Airbnb has decided to keep a clearly retaliatory review from a guest who openly wrote that they were “disappointed because the host didn’t refund the nights we didn’t stay.” This complaint is solely about a denied refund, not about the stay & Airbnb says this review is valid.
@AirbnbHelp I have just sent Airbnb private message with full details, included photos, videos which taken yesterday and today to prove the status of Hanoi right now. Looking forward to your response
@AirbnbHelp Disappointed with @Airbnb's handling of refunds related to Typhoon Yagi in Hanoi. The storm passed days ago, and life is fully back to normal. Without consulting local hosts, Airbnb has giving last-minute cancellations a full refund

This lack of communication is both disrespectful and damaging to hosts and travelers alike. I urge @Airbnb to reconsider this unfair policy and consult local hosts before making decisions that impact us all financially and logistically. We deserve better!
As a local host, I have guests currently staying in my properties who are enjoying their time in Hanoi with no issues. Their firsthand feedback proves the situation is stable.
