Very similar to how Rias in Tohoku cause tsunami waves to increase in height.The 3min interval (6min for the 2011 Japan one) to warn & evacuate everyone was extremely tight! Hope they will establish well-labeled egress routes like those we saw in Japan!

Arahama still serves its educational purpose by teaching public about the 2011 tsunami,the subsequent 27h where the evacuees waited in the cold & dark for helicopters to rescue them,& the importance of being prepared! #GeohazardsNCP18 @scienceANU @anuearthscience @ANU_CPAS

What was once a bright,warm, lively school for many was left a dark, cold, empty concrete shell after the tsunami. It is now a memorial & museum to remember the disaster & those whose lives were afftected by it #Arahama #GeohazardsNCP18 @scienceANU @anuearthscience @ANU_CPAS

Arahama was once Sendai’s only beach where people could swim & play. Now,it is an empty piece of land devoid of its former vibrancy😢 Hope that its reopening next year would allow local festivals to be celebrated again #GeohazardsNCP18 @scienceANU @anuearthscience @ANU_CPAS

Cow milk requires refrigeration under 5 °C to prevent bacteria growth! With the power outage caused by the #HokkaidoEarthquake , milk can’t be refrigerated & must be disposed! But glad that one farmer is sharing his backup generator with others!
