Items like medicine, eyeglasses, ID’s, birth certificates and other documents needed for housing may be currently unattainable to those fenced out. #EchoPark
LAPD and SAN need to allow EPL residents who were fenced out last night to go back inside to get their belongings. One of our organizers has reported that no EPL residents have been allowed to go back to get their stuff since at least noon.
The gentrifying process in #EchoPark displaced my mom and I in 2005. We were priced out of the neighborhood my mom called home since the 1970s. What is happening in #EchoParkLake is the ongoing "spatial fix" of capital to resolve its contradictions.
as i watch footage of LAPD suiting up in expensive riot gear so that the city can put up a fence to keep poor people out of a public park, i’m reminded of this excerpt from The End of Policing by Alex Vitale
Today is a great day to remember that L.A. promised 15,000 hotel rooms to our unhoused neighbors, received a windfall of federal cash to pay for even more rooms, and has delivered a total of 2,000 rooms instead. 60,000 people sleep outside every night.
This is how much money we’ve spent on LAPD for 5 hours of standing, not calculating the 4 helicopters. Imagine putting that money towards housing people. #ServicesNotSweeps
If you're not on the ground at #EchoParkRiseUp, here's something to do: you're going to email your council office.
No, not the members. Their field staffers. The ones who have to look you in the face at your neighborhood meetings.
We'll make it easy for you.

2022 is coming @mitchofarrell, and we won’t forget that your desperate attempt to court the NIMBY vote was to waste tens of thousands of dollars on getting LAPD to brutally evict people experiencing homelessness in your district. Stop the sweep Mitch! #EchoParkRiseUp
.@mitchofarrell's plan to secretly evict hundreds of unhoused neighbors didn't go unnoticed. Now he’s trying to justify it. You can’t fool us, Mitch. If your goal was to provide housing, you wouldn’t be rushing through a massive sweep like this. Stop the sweep! #EchoParkRiseUp
Echo Park Lake residents are demanding that @MitchOFarrell stand with them or leave them alone. Mitch O’Farrell has not meaningfully engaged with the community about what they want or need. #EchoParkRiseUp
Unhoused people at Echo Park Lake came together to build resources that the city failed to provide: from showers, to charging stations, a communal kitchen and community garden. Instead of working with the residents, @MitchOFarrell plans to destroy the community. #EchoParkRiseUp
Echo Park Lake provides safety and community to over 100 unhoused residents. Despite this, @mitchofarrell is wasting tens of thousands of dollars contracting with LASAN and LAPD to harass, evict, and displace these unhoused neighbors. Stop the sweep Mitch! #EchoParkRiseUp
If @mitchofarrell really wanted to make sure people had an opportunity to get housing, he wouldn’t be rushing through a secret sweep of the lake. We’re not buying it. Stop the sweep and provide the housing and resources folks deserve! #EchoParkRiseUp
Echo Park Lake residents have been trying to get a meeting with @mitchofarrell for over a year but instead of connecting with his constituents like a real leader, he’s getting LASAN and LAPD to evict them. Stop the sweep, Mitch! #EchoParkRiseUp
ACTION ITEMS TO SUPPORT THE ECHO PARK LAKE UNHOUSED COMMUNITY TODAY:
1) Call/email Mitch O’Farrell and demand that the City of Los Angeles immediately stop its planned actions to displace the unsheltered community at Echo Park Lake. Sample script: https://t.co/yHwha1bfhG
The community will continue to stand in solidarity with the residents of Echo Park Lake until @mitchofarrell commits to not displacing the residents. That means daily blockades to protect the park community. #EchoParkRiseUp
Continue to flood Mitch O'Farrell's voicemail. Demand that he call off his secret plan to evict everyone from Echo Park Lake. https://t.co/5hJiWGUFTp #EchoParkRiseUp
