When the Legislature resumes this fall we have prepared a new comprehensive private members bill that I will be introducing to end these fees once and for all. This will be an opportunity for the Ford govt to do the right thing & put patients & families ahead of profits.

After campaigning for the elimination of these fees in the last election I tabled a motion to eliminate hospital parking fees across Ontario and properly fund hospitals for any resulting shortfall.

Unfortunately, the Ford government voted it down.

Last week Niagara Health announced that effective August 1 hospital parking rates will increase to $20 per day. This is nothing but a tax on the sick their families and frontline staff. We should not be fighting hospital deficits on the backs of the sick.

Importantly, the renovations will be completed in phases to ensure there is no disruption to operations.

I’m pleased to hear that the renovation plans for the Welland Hospital are moving forward. The project so far includes infrastructure upgrades, more single & double patient rooms, enhanced safety & security, a new boiler and an upgraded chiller plant. 1/2

Huge shoutout to Emily McIntosh, founder of The Women of Ontario Say No, who spearheaded the push for stronger municipal accountability alongside councillors and survivors, ultimately leading to the passage of Bill 9, the Municipal Accountability Act today at Queen’s Park.

The passage of Bill 9 is a positive step forward. However, there is still more work to do, including ensuring that there is a reasonable process for removal of elected officials for egregious acts of sexual harassment and violence.
