@sommecourt Thank you for posting and for the information, very interesting. Two of my Great- Great Uncles fought with the Tyneside Irish Brigade and were killed on the 1st July 1916, John and Mark McGowan.
109 years ago today, the Battle of the Somme started and the Tyneside Irish Brigade advanced to attack La Boiselle. Nearly 2000 men in the Brigade died that day, two of those were my Great Great Uncles, John and Mark McGowan. Their sacrifice is never forgotten

If ever there is a Somme equivalent of Robert Capa's D-Day images it is these showing men of the Tyneside Irish Brigade marching into machine-gun oblivion and getting fewer and fewer in number, until just a handful remain. The undying tragedy of 1st July 1916: 109 years ago today
👏 Honouring a legend.
The West Stand at the Stadium of Light will be renamed in tribute to our all-time appearance maker and Club icon, Jimmy Montgomery ❤️

Remember My Name is a love song dedicated to my late Grandparents - they were always so fiercely proud of our family so I wrote the song in honour of them, from the perspective of my Grandad who was looking after my Grandma when she was suffering from dementia
Eighty years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army.
1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over.
Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.
