A former Green Party Minister responsible for charities who lost his Dáil seat just months ago has now become Executive Director of a leading NGO:

It is absolutely mind boggling listening to our Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD publicly admit today that up to 80% of those seeking asylum here are not entitled to be here, are economic migrants and should be deported immediately. And admitting that the process should be sped up
Firstly, that man owes the brave people of Ireland, that stood up and put their necks and livelihoods on the line by saying this from day one, a public apology. We were right and this government, including MM, and MSM called us every single name under the sun. We articulated very clearly that anyone genuinely seeking asylum was welcome. Anyone working and contributing to society is welcome. But all those that should not be here, that are sponging off our generosity and screwing up our services need to be removed immediately and shouldn’t even be allowed in the first place.
Secondly, we are all paying for this governments incompetence. Refugees and asylum seekers are big business here. It’s costs the Irish taxpayer over €4b per annum and now MM has finally admitted that 80% of this bill is going to people that shouldn’t be here. This is a bloody national scandal!!!
This means that we have spent €3.2b PER ANNUM for the last 2 years needlessly! How many problems would that solve here? Literally homelessness over night! All kids waiting on operations for scoliosis would be done.
I could literally list most problems of the country that that would have solved. Think how many world class bike sheds we’d have!!!
But I will settle for a public apology and an acknowledgment of those that stood up from day one and called this for the bullshit that it was
If that was you, stand up and take a bow.
Ireland is being flooded with immigrants…. Since 2002-2022 over 177,153 new PPSN numbers have issued to India born nationals.! Brazil has received over 140,000 in the same period.! Nigeria has received more than 70,000.! These figures do not include 2023-2025… #IrelandisFull
“We know we hold a lot of power. We are in a very strong power relationship”: Meet Ireland’s most powerful activist NGO - a €109m fund established by the Government which has Simon Harris’ brother on its board of directors:

While hundreds of small Irish businesses, many who have been opened for years are having to close because they can’t remain open due to financial demands put on by Government, Rethink Ireland (funded by the government of Iteland) are offering €180,000 cash over three years to social enterprises led by ethnic minority, migrant or refugee community!
If it’s not sinking in yet, the Irish government do not care about Irish businesses, in fact they are doing everything in their power to close them.
@Nick_Delehanty Not sure if you're aware, but I recently discovered a startling fact about social housing in Ireland. 74.5% of non-EU nationals (~ 5,000 as of 2023) on the waiting list for a council house are failed asylum seekers.
@KeithMillsD7 Non EU citizens shouldn’t be allowed to buy property here. We also need to stop handing out citizenship like candy… So many things are wrong. At least we can all get a good tandoori chicken I suppose
In general, the law of the European Union applies to all 27 member states. However, occasionally member states negotiate certain opt-outs or opt-in’s to or from legislation or treaties, meaning they do not have to participate in certain policy areas regardless of what laws the EU may put in place. Currently, only 3 member states have such opt-outs or opt-in’s:
•Denmark (2)
•Ireland (2)
•Poland (1)
So when laws are enacted at an EU level in the area of freedom, security or justice (which includes immigration and asylum), Ireland is not legally bound by any such laws, unless we specifically and voluntarily opt-into those laws.
The opt-in provision with respect to freedom, security and justice was originally obtained by Ireland and the United Kingdom in a protocol to the Treaty of Amsterdam of 1997, with the opt-in being retained by both Ireland and the UK with the passing of the Treaty of Nice in 2002 and the Treaty of Lisbon in 2008. This opt-in provision is referred to as Protocol 21.
The below screenshots have just been taken from the European Commission website and confirm that:
"There is no EU obligation for Ireland to take in refugees as it has an opt-in or opt-out clause on individual proposals in the areas of freedom, security and justice through the EU Treaty of Lisbon.....The Irish government has decided to opt-in to the Pact on Migration and Asylum"
The Irish Government does not work for the Irish people. They work for the European Union.
In response to a mechanic’s viral video on social media regarding Ukrainian refugees having their car repairs paid for by the State, the Department of Social Protection has confirmed to Gript that taxpayer money can be used for car repairs:

🇮🇪🚨
A Pakistani migrant arrives in Ireland as a student. Marries a Polish woman in a sham wedding to gain Irish residency. Then travels back to Pakistan to marry another woman & then attempted to get her into Ireland.
The Pakistani applied for citizenship & was refused. He was refused residency a number of times.
He has applied for naturalisation and this decision is pending. This illegal Pakistani migrant may yet still be allowed to remain in Ireland with his wife and gain citizenship.
It's so predictable that all the focus is on McGregor, not the issue raised and the idea that if you share his concerns with immigration you must be pro rape. Even by the dumb standards of Twitter, this is a new level of idiocy. McGregor is irrelevant, focus on the issues not him
