In Jaws, Robert Shaw was drunk in the first take of this intense monologue.
He struggled with alcoholism and was a heavy drinker during Jaws production.
He suggested to Spielberg that, since the characters were drinking in the scene, he should have a few real drinks to get into character.
Spielberg agreed but then regretted it.
On the first take, Shaw got very drunk.
Crew members had to carry him onto the boat. He slurred lines, wandered off-script, and the filming was halted.
He had a blackout and didn’t remember much.
Early the next morning, Shaw called Spielberg to apologize and begged for a reshoot. He showed up sober, nailed it.
And that take was used.
Michael Mann is famous for its meticulous attention to technical details. In Heat, when Vincent Hanna realizes "we just got made" and discovers that Neil McCauley is conducting counter-surveillance on him and his team, both sides are using the same camera; the Nikon F4 35mm SLR, the most advanced camera for professional surveillance photography at the time.
Detective Casals' camera has black tape covering the white "Nikon" lettering, which was standard practice for LAPD, to prevent accidental light glints that could reveal an officer's concealed position.
Meanwhile, McCauley’s F4 keeps the Nikon lettering exposed. Not because he lacks operational awareness, but because his extreme distance and elevated position make reflections irrelevant.
His camera is fitted with a 1300mm Questar Reflector lens - essentially a portable telescope originally designed for astronomers. That same model was widely adopted by U.S. intelligence agencies for its exceptional long-range capabilities.
It can capture detailed facial features from hundreds of yards away, but the extreme magnification means even the smallest movement causes severe image shake - which is why McCauley mounts it on a sturdy tripod atop a massive oil storage tank.

In golf it’s a flop shot.
In tennis it’s a slice lob.
In hurling
it’s Gearóid Hegarty.
