Legendary West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding has sharply criticised the growing dominance of T20 franchise leagues, warning they are undermining cricket’s traditional formats, especially Test cricket.

Holding argued that while boards publicly profess support for Test cricket, their decisions are overwhelmingly driven by short-term financial gains. He stressed that T20 success does not prepare players for the rigours of Test matches and has repeatedly stated that he does not consider T20 “real cricket.”
The iconic pacer highlighted the damage to resource-poor nations, as lucrative league contracts increasingly pull top talent away from national duties, eroding the depth and competitiveness of Test cricket.
