I am a guy who wanted to become an actuary, worked out it sucked, learned some code and became a data scientist. Now I am learning more code to build cool stuff
I will be at the Bristol Meetup tonight to discuss how businesses can implement intelligent automation and generally having a great time meeting everyone.
Catch you there.

@NatalieRens@iandanforth Might want to AI theme it a bit?
sounds like a place for "deep learning"?
maybe a great opportunity for "neural network-ing"?
"training data"?
"test set"?
"cross-validate"?
"supervised learning"?
gotta be like a heap more deep learning puns I can't think of right now?
@ebanescott @AdvanceQld @NatalieRens @QChiefEntrepren I think it is an amazing start and well done to @NatalieRens and everyone involved, sadly a few of us in the AI community would have loved to have seen another 0 on that figure.
@levelsio I used to get suckered into this trap, wasted so much time with complete tools. I even did stuff for free because I was community minded = dumb
Now it is either:
1) "Sure, $US2k per day or part thereof" (if they have $)
2) or sorry no, best of luck I'm really busy (if no $)
@levelsio The internet is your oyster man. Online courses might be the way to go.
On another note my brother has like 4 degrees from university, but mainly I think it was for the parties and the girls.
I wasn't invited to as many parties, and I am not as attractive as he is.
Boo!
@rumcitylabs I write code and drink bubble tea.
We have an awesome bubble tea place in Bundy that I just discovered "Bundy Bubble Bar and Bundy Rice & Noodles Restaurant".
Coffee catch ups are a thing of the past. All business will be done over bubble tea.
That is all.
@rumcitylabs I am learning more and more that it is giving amazing content away free and really trying to engage with the data science community on Linkedin (like I am starting to do). Some things were too broad in the past, I think niche is the answer.
@rumcitylabs I build amazing $hit that no one knows or cares about, ergo I need to learn about marketing :)
* content inc - joe pulluzi
* jab, jab, right hook - garry v
* epic content marketing - joe pulluzi
@hmason I get hit with a fair few requests - not 24, but just counting: ok 8.
I am the only data scientist for a small startup of 12 people.
Kind of think best for newbies to avoid startups.
When they are starting out they are better off going to a medium-large sized company.
So damn funny!
"Pitch Deck is a game where you and your friends make ridiculous, creative pitches for objectively bad startup ideas."

@ellispeta Kind of funny but in terms of analytics/ data science in Australia their coding skills are probably already in the top fraction of a % of people I have worked with.
But that says more about the adoption of data science/ analytics/ digital skills in bus in Australia really...
@levelsio It is kind of funny having devs chortle at your stuff - "oh you used PHP for that - hoho hahah! I would use clojure with a postgres db"
I am like: "cool, nice theory, but have you actually built anything lately mother fu%$er?"
https://t.co/4dDv0ld3aa
@ellispeta Awesome!
One of the main reasons why we homeschool our daughters is lack of faith in the education system to prepare them for the future.
At 6 & 7 they can write code - basic html, css, my 7 year old is even getting into javascript. They have had exposure to R and python.
@sbxr Ha! There you go! You are amazing dude!
I feel like unis kind of box up people a bit too much, esp entrepreneurs like yourself. People who succeed at school/ uni do well with theory but not practical.
Worked with a Phd who couldn't open a CSV file, not awesome.
Grit > Degree
@sbxr I am really not smart at all - I'd claim I am unconventionally good looking, but even that is open to debate.
If I can do it then anyone can do anything to get their thing off the ground (including code).
I think formal education is becoming increasingly irrelevant.
