I discovered that one employee had been scheduling emails to send at 8:03 every morning.

A communications director admitted she sometimes worked late, drafted messages at night, and scheduled them for the next morning so nobody felt pressured to respond after hours.

I was stunned by the level of deception.

For weeks, I thought this woman was arriving at 8:03 with fresh ideas.

She was asleep.

The ideas were old.

I asked why she was manufacturing morning productivity.

She said she was trying to respect work-life boundaries.

I explained that boundaries should not require falsifying the natural time of an email.

If you write something at 11:46 PM, that email was born at 11:46 PM.

You cannot simply give it an 8:03 AM identity because the original time makes people uncomfortable.

That is timestamp laundering.

I reviewed her sent folder.

47 messages had been delayed.

Some by 8 hours.

One by an entire weekend.

I asked IT to disable scheduled send for her account.

The next evening, she sent six emails after midnight.

Three employees complained about the late messages.

I documented the complaints.

We finally had an accurate picture of the culture problem.
