Gertrude Elion's grandfather meant a great deal to her. When he died of cancer, she wanted to find a cure for the horrible disease. She ended up developing medicines that saved many lives. Elion saved all the letters she received from grateful patients.

Huge congratulations to MND Association patrons, Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield, who have both been awarded CBEs, recognised by King Charles III in his New Year honours.
Both have tirelessly raised money and awareness of #MND since Rob’s diagnosis in 2019.
Whether or not we develop dementia is down to a combination of different risk factors – but what is a risk factor?
Our new animation, narrated by Sean Bean, explains more about the risk factors many of us can control, and those we can’t.

Excited to share the work of our postdoc Duxin showing a key role of Xbp1 in modulating neuronal vulnerability to C9orf72 repeat expansion toxicity. Thanks to our collaborators @EvanUdine@isaacs_adrian and @tammarynlashley https://t.co/kZuVtKNsUU
Of around 1 million people in the UK with dementia, a small proportion of people are living with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). But what is this type of dementia and how can research lead to a cure?
Find out in our Q&A blog👇 https://t.co/0Y6IuAgxM1
If you miss her earlier chat with @AlzResearchUK about FTD, read this Q&A https://t.co/hPn8os12so to learn what research to-date has revealed about this disease @IHAatUCL#FTD#FrontotemporalDementia
Our own Dr Niccoli recently talked to @AlzResearchUK about Frontotemporal Dementia, a disease we research in the lab. Read the blog here: https://t.co/neLTWaLpNE for a deep dive into this rare type of dementia. @IHAatUCL#FTD#FrontotemporalDementia
.@isaacs_adrian shares his optimism for new dementia treatments.
He & his team of researchers @UKDRI are studying the underlying causes of dementia that will one day lead to new treatments for people with diseases like Alzheimer’s.
His vital work will help us change the ending.

Today @AlzResearchUK has laid bare the harsh realities of dementia and the impact of the condition on families. We know that research can change this, but we must keep momentum going.
Stand with us today to change the ending.
Very excited to share our paper just out in Plos Genetics showing pyruvate import ameliorates fly models of dementia! Congratulations to Dongwei and Alec first authors! And thanks to @AlzResearchUK for funding!

Excited to share the preprint of our 1st #iPSC from an indigenous Nigerian, differentiated to astrocytes. Though iPSC generation isn't new, this marks a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to develop an African iPSC biobank & to study hw African genetic background influence AD
Check out our new preprint on generation and characterisation of C9orf72 polyGR and polyPR knock-in mice. A huge effort over many years by @milioto_carmelo and many collaborators incl. @marcaurelbusche@soyonhonglab
