An Asian friend of mine called today and was telling me about a South Korean show where real-life couples, some married for decades, openly discuss their struggles, often on the verge of separation.
One couple had been together for over 30 years, yet they lived like strangers under the same roof. Their biggest issue? Money. The wife was furious about her husband’s habit of spending on expensive gadgets and hobbies while ignoring the household budget. He, on the other hand, felt she was suffocating him with rules. The tension had grown so thick that they hadn’t shared a meal together in months.
But what struck me the most was how people reacted to these shows. Many viewers don’t just watch for entertainment; they watch, reflect, and leave feeling grateful for their own marriages. At the end of the day, the couple even said, “I don’t have it that bad after all.”
It’s a powerful reminder that perspective changes everything. Sometimes, we’re so focused on what’s wrong in our lives that we forget to appreciate what’s right. Before you dwell on what you lack, take a moment to recognize the blessings you already have. What you’re complaining about might be someone else’s dream.
