Pharmacy First aims ‘to free up 10million GP appts’
If similar funding had been provided to GP practices, they could provide double that number
Simple stuff isn’t always simple
Pharmacists not trained to look in ears
GPs 20% £/patient funding cut

NHS Pension Scheme
‘Interesting’ that it runs a surplus of over £4.4bn per year
NHS staff with their ‘golden’ pensions costing the country £Millions.
Well it appears not to be the case 🤔

£3 a week pays for all your GP services
This is 67p less than 8 years ago in real terms
If you can’t see a GP it’s because NHS England have cut the funding for GP practices
Doctors have been removed from GP practices by political choice, NHS England policies & funding
Potentially 3000+ GPs are available to work now but the funding isn’t there
Cuts of £350k for the average practice has seen the average number of patients per GP rise from 1800 to 2300
A superb end to the first half of our 2024/25 programme with @ListerProd delivering a highly thoughtful and insightful talk on Frank Worrell and his place in West Indian cricket & social history. Looking forward to reading the book and learning more about the great man.

38 MILLION APPOINTMENTS
The number of appts in General Practice in October
This is 6million more than October 2022 (20%⬆️)
Just for comparison A&E was 2.356m attendances also a record high 200k more than 2022 (10%⬆️)
GPs are not to blame for A&E attendances
@wesstreeting
Ever wondered why you can’t get a GP appointment?
Or why family doctors are being forced to take collective action?
In a new video series, grassroots GPs @DrRachelWardGP, @drcartersingh, and Dr Kerry Cattanach explain what’s happening in #GeneralPractice 👇

Cost-Benefit to NHS
Average spend on appts
GP practice £23
ARRS £35
Pharmacy First £48
UTC £85
Hubs £48
Virtual Beds £665
A&E £100-£300
£165pa for all patient care average 6 appts
Problem is misinformation about the cost of GP appts even @TheKingsFund

Trevor Philips, "The NHS is spending £1 million every three minutes"
£3,465 - how much the UK spends per person on NHS
£4,364 - how much France spends per person
£5,184 - how much German spends per person
France is spending 25% more and Germany 49% more
The reason why there are better health outcomes in France and Germany is because they are spending more per person on the NHS
So while £1 million every 3 minutes sounds 'big' it is still significantly less than France and Germany
Yes @wesstreeting it’s absurd that GPs can’t get work & patients can’t get appts
The solution is simple - put back the £35/patient/yr funding taken by NHS England since 2016
Enough for 2 full-time GPs per average practice
2 GPs missing per practice due to NHS England policies
The average number of patients per GP is now 2300 an increase of 500 in 10 yrs & average number of appts a GP provides is 6900/yr or 150/week
There are not enough GPs, yet NHS England has cut core funding for Practices by 20% in real terms £/patient
Can’t see a GP blame NHSE/MPs
GP CRISIS 📈work 📉income
Real-terms income before tax for GP partners in 🏴 down by 17% in 2022/23
Govt backed a 6% pay uplift for the current financial year but will only cover salaried employees
Partners continue to see income cuts
GP Practices will continue to close
Unviable
Can’t see a GP - blame MPs & NHS England
Core funding for GP Practices has been cut by £2bn since 2016, enough for an average practice to employ 2 GPs, a Practice Nurse & more admin staff
Instead £1.4bn on ARRS ~ additional roles but no GPs or Practice Nurses
Patients need GPs

More funding to Community Care - not reorganisation - would sort this sooner
NHS GPs have done all they can to provide patient care for less than £10 a month, 30p a day
The amount given to GPs to provide care has been cut by £35 per patient per year in real terms
BUPA can offer their services for because @NHSEngland has failed patients
MORE NEEDED NOW
£20 a month is double the amount @NHSEngland funds GPs in England
Bupa subscription doesn’t give you access to NHS services & prescriptions
If NHS funded GP services properly there would be no need at all for this option
£107.57/person/year is not enough & 20% less than 2016
