What an inspiring, refreshing interview with @BlaisdellMs about play

TJ Devine, principal at JC Lynch Elementary in Florence 3, brings excitement to the academic goal setting process with a weekly WIG (Wildly Important Goal) Run. Students who meet their weekly academic goal run with Mr. Devine down the hallway and conclude by calling out their names on the PA system. Students love the WIG Run more than candy, extra recess, or a star on a behavior chart. @TheLeaderinMe@chad_d_smith #tlim
At Glen Lake Elementary, recess is a mixed blessing, in part because their school has many kids with physical disabilities, but no adaptive playground equipment. That is until one 5th-grade class banded together to make sure their school had a playground for everyone.
Viewing this one simple tweet last night inspired me to have my 3rd graders give “shout outs” to each other during our reflection time at the end of class today. Students identifying the greatness they notice in each other has so much power!
The influential and much loved @URFacofEd Professor Emeritus Dr. Garth Pickard was an inspirational educator to many. Now, thanks to donations from former students & colleagues, a memorial rock has been placed north of the #UofRegina so all can take his advice: Go sit on a rock!

Garth was involved with PHE Canada since it was called CAPHER and was instrumental in getting the 'D' added since, in his words, 'Dance is everything and everything is dance."
On behalf of our Board of Directors & staff, we are sharing our sincere condolences to Garths family.
I'm quite saddened to hear of the passing of Garth Pickard @integrality, a former colleague from the Faculty of Education who dedicated much of his life to environmental issues including the reorientation of teacher education toward sustainability. Garth will be remembered well.
“When we treat children’s play as seriously as it deserves, we are helping them feel the joy that’s to be found in the creative spirit. It’s the things we play with and the people who help us play that make a great difference in our lives.” ― Fred Rogers #Playmatters#Education
