Campaigning for UK return to EU & renew our democracy. Migrant. Non conformist. Conservative progressive. Brussels based. Personal & RT not endorsement
@ProfTimBale@MatthewdAncona One could argue that in many respects Thatcher was never a Tory. Her social conservatism, yes; but her economic thinking, her weltanschauung, her grasp of history/ tradition…
@CognitaVagabond @TimothyDSnyder@MomsAGAbbott Not really. The whole point is Trump is governing ‘for his people/ ‘real Americans’ etc, seeking to divide & isolate rather than serve the whole. Viz. withholding federal disaster relief to blue regions
@harari_yuval It’s an old right wing argument. I once heard a far right politician say (? Farage) about Brexit that Brits would be ‘Poorer but purer.’ Chilling
My Aunt lives in Southport and I was with her on Monday celebrating her 80th birthday when we heard the news of the attack. That the community’s grief and shock should be compounded by these far right thugs is disgusting.
#Southport
With Joe Biden dropping out of the race and endorsing Kamala Harris, it's a good time to revisit @abughazalehkat's look at how the right (and Trump) can't figure out how to attack her.
And now, they're trying to play catchup.
@FightingAnne1@AlisonKMurray Kuenssberg is appalling, she has no political foundation, her only guiding principle is the thirst for entertainment/ personality stuff
As it’s the final round of #TheOpen in Royal Troon, Scotland today, here’s the incomparable Robin Williams discussing how golf was invented in Scotland. Genius. ⛳️ 🏴
@EricColumbus@WalshFreedom Repugs basically throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. I’ve noted 1. Harris is being chosen un democratically 2. She has a funny laugh 3. She wants to ban straws…
Reminder of what life was like under Donald Trump:
- Murders rose 30% -- one of the largest increases in recorded history
- Cuts to law enforcement were proposed every year
- $8.4 trillion was added to national debt
- Real GDP declined its largest drop since 1947
- Trade deficit rose over 40% -- the worst ever in U.S. history
- 2.9 million jobs lost
- 154,000 manufacturing jobs lost
- Coal production declined 27%
- Coal-mining jobs dropped by 17%
@anneapplebaum Reminds me of a classic Fawlty Towers episode when the guests (who are psychiatrists) witness Basil Fawlty acting bizarrely: There’s enough material here for a complete medical conference’ ;)
