Last night, as heartbreaking as it was, mirrors the rise to greatness shown by teams before.

Pistons

🔴 The Pistons lost to the Celtics in the 86-87 ECF.
🔵 Pistons lost to the Lakers in 87-88 in the Finals.

However, they won the next two World Championships.

Red Wings

🔴 Lost 1994-1995 Stanley Cup Final.
🔴 Lost 1995-1996 Western Conference Final.

Yet, they won the next two Stanley Cups.

Intriguingly, Scotty Bowman, Chuck Daly, and Dan Campbell had nearly identical quotes in my research. In some variation, they said, ‘It’s hard getting here; it’ll be harder to get back.’ This leadership perspective signals that reaching a certain point is challenging, but progressing to the next step demands raising one’s level and never forgetting the accompanying feeling.

In today’s world, where ‘everyone is a winner,’ sports remind us that there are both losers and winners. Coaches, GMs, and owners are judged on this dynamic. As a society, we must embrace losses and learn how to come back stronger.

Believing this, I say what follows: The Lions are a young team with a bright future. Endowed with competent leadership and a few young star players, they are poised to become a team that we can all be proud of moving forward. Believe it.
