While each of the main political parties has made promises on the issue, the big-picture proposals have rarely received much attention on the campaign trail, says Eric Lombardi, founder of the housing advocacy group More Neighbours Toronto. https://t.co/l6pXQBFn4e
The median household income in Toronto is $95K CAD.
It now costs more than double the median household to afford the average home.
Housing that was attainable to families 15 years ago is now a luxury. A decline in living standards to all left out. What have we done?
How can we ever hope to reason with people like these NYC Resident’s Association members? Local governing power is consolidated in the hands of a few property owners refusing to see that we need more housing in a legitimate crisis. Very much a problem in big NA cities.
Bronx CB10 had folks, mostly ‘community leaders’ and former politicians, give prepared remarks before the applicants gave their presentation. ‘Neighborhood character’ can never be more important than meeting our basic housing needs.

“In light of rocketing housing costs in cities across Canada, the Finance Minister’s policies are like trying to stop a forest fire with a water gun.

Imagine how out of touch one has to be, for a moment, to disagree with building homes for people to live in during a housing crisis?
Government investment, purpose built rentals, and demand measures are good ideas.
But we cannot go wrong making it easier to build housing.
Dear #TOPoli, it is possible that people who show-up in support of new housing development in Toronto - are just people who "SUPPORT new housing development in Toronto"... and the number of those people is growing daily, because of stuff like THIS... ⬇️

NIMBY mayors are celebrating today.
Just look how happy the Mayor of Aurora is that task force recommendations are being, in his words, abandoned by @SteveClarkPC.
Press Release - Ontario Bill 109
Today, our government and @SteveClarkPC are choosing to continue with inaction on addressing the housing crisis.
We didn’t expect everything. But we hoped for much more. We are very disappointed.

The "15-Minute City" concept is attainable to people at ALL income levels, if our Governments are aggressive about using our own lands within those catchment areas for delivering new, mixed-income housing... instead of "Empty Car-Storage". #TOPoli#ONPOli

Less than a year since it was formed, @MoreNeighbours has published policy recommendations on housing and pushed for change that’s caught the attention of both the city and a provincial task force looking to address the housing crisis. / via @TorontoStar

This should bring shame to all of us in Toronto.
We do not lack the space for these *modular homes* for those in need, we just lack the political courage to identify *a couple underused parking lots* to designate for shelter housing.
Not only does exclusionary zoning enable wealthy residents of low rise neighbourhoods to drive up their home values, they also get to hoard the infrastructure we ALL pay for.
It’s time to welcome More Neighbours into more Toronto neighbourhoods.
In just 10 years, Toronto home prices went up over $1M, or 175%. For condos, over 100% growth. Tax free.
A generational crime so heinous you almost want to laugh instead of cry.
Leaders who slow-move change perpetuate a massive moral failure.
If you think immigrants and international students are *The Problem* causing the housing crisis, please unfollow us.
The same systemic failures are failing them too. We can build more homes and create a prosperous Toronto with ample opportunity for everyone.
