Spent more than 8 months on this, and it’s the wildest story I’ve ever worked on.
The Tasmanian government covered up literally thousands of cases of child abuse over two decades. The cover up continues to this day.

The NACC is in crisis, thanks to the leadership of Brereton.
The Albanese govt owns a large share of the responsibiliity too, and now has a serious mess to clean up.

The Albanese govt could have appointed fmr Supreme Court justices, KCs or police commissioners. Instead they chose the least qualified combination of deputies permitted under the NACC Act.
And it’s been almost impossible to judge their work - because we’ve seen so little of it.

This months-long investigation raises major concerns about the suitability of all 3 deputy commissioners, casting serious new doubt on the legitimacy of the NACC as currently constituted
