Thank you to those who supported me. Not the result I hoped for. It is disappointing when many only vote by colour. Brexit had a huge part in result. I walked 44,000 steps (32km) around Minster Ward yesterday from 7am to 9pm to give the people of Minster a hard working Councillor
'His king of the North persona and schtick will begin to grate!'
@afneil and @FraserNelson outline some of the difficulties Andy Burnham could face after a matter of months if he becomes prime minister.

The 50th anniversary of the heatwave of 1976 has coincided with another heatwave. Does the 1976 event still hold any records?
🌞 Even at the time, the summer of 1976 did not break the record for the highest temperature ever recorded in Britain. The highest recorded that year was 35.96°C in Cheltenham on 3 July, while the record at the time was 36.7°C, recorded in several places on 9 August 1911. The current record is 40.3°C recorded at Coningsby, Lincolnshire on 19 July 2022.
🌞 However, what the 1976 heatwave lacked in intensity it made up for in duration. For 15 consecutive days the temperature exceeded 32.2°C somewhere in Britain. Temperatures in excess of 35°C were recorded for five days running. This has never been surpassed.
🌞 In the Central England Temperature record, going back to 1659, the summer of 1976 still comes top, along with 2025, with an average temperature of 17.72°C for the months June, July and August.

.@ZiaYusufUK is a fantastic orator amongst a typical BBC audience and out of touch MPs.
The audience member blamed Brexit for all of the country’s problems.
Zia correctly pointed out that neither Labour nor the Tories have delivered what the British public voted for.
Completely agree with this member of the Question Time audience.
A few years ago, Andy Burnham was calling for a General Election when the Tories coronated Rishi Sunak.
He’s set to be coronated, it’s double standards if he refuses to call a General Election.
Volkswagen aims to axe up to 100,000 jobs in a “profound” strategic shift to counter trade tariffs, stagnating markets and, above all, fierce competition from China. It will cut one in six of its 660,000 jobs worldwide and production at four German factories — the largest restructure in automotive industry history.
China is out to do to Europe’s car industry what it’s already done to its solar panel industry — destroy it.
Judging from the pathetic response of the EU so far to this threat (the UK is equally pathetic) it’s likely to succeed.
China also aims to dominate batteries, wind power machinery, machine tools, Pharma and chips — with its mercantilist ‘industrial policy of everything’.
China 2.0 poses a far bigger threat to European industry than China 1.0 over 20 years ago. Some forecasts predict over 50% of what’s left of Europe’s manufacturing base will be gone in a decade.
Labour MPs who backed Burnham fail to tell us what changes will follow to improve things. They liked his ability to win Makerfield but it was a win to sack Starmer. His win did not endorse clear policy change for the better or mean voters like the Labour government.
- Miserable pipsqueak
- A demented Dalek on speed
- A foetus in a jar
These are just a fraction of the insults directed at @michaelgove by @UKLabour and its activists during his time as Education Secretary. All this pearl-clutching from Labour MPs in relation to @KemiBadenoch's row with @bphillipsonMP is pathetic. They need to get over themselves. @bphillipsonMP's class war has caused school closures, cost people their jobs and messed up the education of countless children, many of them with special needs. She deserves to be called out for it. 'Spiteful class warrior' is the least of it.
Me on #PoliticsLive: fuss re Kemi's toxic language is SO irritating from party that gave us Lucy Powell's dog whistle attack on mentioning grooming gangs, Lammy labelling Brexiteers as Nazis & nasty, ugly demonising of dissenters as far right/racist/ignorant gammon. Grrr

Overnight 66% of our electricity came from gas. Still the government bans producing more of our own gas. Renewables are unreliable and dearer than gas power. With renewables you need to pay to keep gas power on stand by and get no carbon tax revenue from wind or solar.
Scotland could lose 18,000 energy jobs over next decade unless there is more investment into oil and gas (@thetimes). Banning new oil and gas licences is a massive self-inflicted wound on Britain’s national interest. Madness
Breaking News🇺🇸⚡️🇬🇧: "The UK is dying and the country is about to go BANKRUPT".
President Trump, once again outlines 3 of the main betrayals that the people are subjected to which is killing us.
Via mass unfettered immigration, 'net-zero' lunacy and two tier policing, judicial system and DEI regulation, the UK is going through a 'Color Revolution'.
Well done to the gorgeous @beverleyturner for such on point questions.

What Labour MPs like Bridget Phillipson fail to understand is that I could not care less about her upbringing and being raised by a single mom. All irrelevant.
The policies she has enacted have been destructive for millions across the country.
The latter is what I care about.
"I grew up on a council estate" is not an excuse for failure. You are sacrificing the future of generations of kids on the altar of your class envy -reversing even Labour's academy reforms.
0% of teachers think you're doing a great job. I'm not here to give you a pat on the back.
I speak for those people whose lives you're destroying and I'll NEVER stop speaking up for them.
Sadiq Khan should hang his head in shame.
He previously denied the existence of grooming gangs in London, yet a major investigation into grooming gangs in the capital has now been launched because of concern about the scale and seriousness of the issue… 😡
Ex-Aussie PM @HonTonyAbbott thinks the UK is currently like a "Sydney summer's day", and we shouldn't worry about a climate crisis.
"The main beneficiary has been communist China, because their making the solar panels and the wind mills that are mucking up our power supply."
