2/2 We correctly invested in more ICU facilities and so on-now we should do the same for mental health services esp for most vulnerable-severe mental illness,minorities etc. It’s not just needing to catch up as elsewhere in NHS it’s the true increased numbers caused by the crisis
@MartinJ33734419 ..1/2 We need to do everything reasonable to mitigate the causes - isolation, loneliness, job losses and so on. The restrictions rightly imposed need to be proportionate and for the shortest time possible. It’s not just the virus that takes lives, so does poor mental health

Inequalities in mortality from #COVID19 - the social gradient - are similar to inequalities in mortality from all causes, suggesting that the the general causes of health inequalities as laid out in #Marmot2020 apply to COVID19 plus some extra in more deprived areas.
Mental health has deteriorated across the population as result of #COVID19.
The biggest impacts have been on women and the young – groups that already had relatively low levels of mental health and worse trends pre-pandemic. This has exacerbated pre-existing inequalities.
