The article, "Technology is not for women", outlines the growing gender gap in less-developed countries like Africa. However, I find that the article contradicts itself when it brings up that lower income households have less access to internet. #SHUCOBF2252
With all of the hateful and mean comments on the internet, which can cause serious mental problems for people, do you think there need to be more safe-guards implemented to protect people from this. #SHUCOBF2252
The Article, "Why Women Aren't On The Internet" illustrates the issue women have surrounding the issues they face on the internet. While this is a pressing and very real issue, I think it is also an issue men face as well and we need to talk about that also. #SHUCOBF2252
11/26- Have you ever seriously considered your gender in light of Brenda Allen's writings? How has your view of gender changed overall, if at all? #SHUCOBF2252
11/26- Brenda J. Allen's text, "Gender Matters", illustrates gender is much more then a person's sex. It is a series of learned roles based on social interactions. #SHUCOBF2252
11/21- Benkler's writitngs in chapters 6 and 7 detail how social and public spheres. Benkler continues to detail how different social structures would have different effects compounded with the social media used to influence said public sphere. #SHUCOBF2252
@rosieshuac59326 I think it starts with engaging those conversations with an open mind and listening well. As a man, I will never fully understand what women go through and vice versa. But if we are quick to listen and slow to speak, then we can begin having those dialogues.
How do you respond to those who have a very different world view than yours? Especially when those people have experienced some sort of racial, sexual, or gender bias? Is it with an open mind? Are you quick to listen and understand? #SHUCOBF2252
Brenda J. Allen is inciteful about racial, gender, and sexual bias. She preaches everyone who reads the book to come into it with an open mind, which I believe is the first step in engaging in these discussions. Discussions that need to happen. #SHUCOBF2252
On page 180, Benkler writes some provocative ideas about the use of the internet. Things like how the internet can be used for individuals to abandon the idea of the public sphere. Do you agree with what Benkler writes? #SHUCOBF2252
@xsousaxmel Unless the media presented is false or untrue. Then I believe the internet can be a hindrance. It is all to easy for such information to get passed around now.
In chapters 6 and 7, Benkler writes about how the Internet's affect on public spheres can be different within different societies. I think this is an interesting, and often overlooked, point. #SHUCOBF2252
I think Baym makes a very convincing argument for online groups being considered communities. I think that terms change over time, and given the current state of society and how much of an impact tech has, communities now exist online. #SHUCOBF2252
With the combination of the progression of streaming services, the hefty prices on cable channel bundles, and the freedom to be able to watch what you want when you want, do you think it there is a reality with no cable TV, and how soon will this become a reality?#SHUCOBF2252
@jeimysimon1 I found it interesting to read about the evolution of media-primarily television- into a sort of hybrid mix between the medium and the distribution technology.
In Lotz's reading, I liked how she links the medium, television, with distribution technologies, in this case, the Internet. I also appreciated how she expands on how the two have used each other, and continue to do so, as television and digital media progresses. #SHUCOBF2252
